How to Set Up a Humminbird MEGA Live 2 Explorer Ice Fishing Bundle
Forward-facing sonar continues to transform ice fishing, and the Humminbird MEGA Live 2 Explorer makes setup easier than ever by eliminating the need for an external black box. In this guide, we’ll walk through how to assemble your complete MEGA Live ice bundle—from unboxing and mounting to cable management and packing everything into a shuttle bag for protection.
Step 1: Unbox & Protect the Display
Start by laying out all components so everything is easy to access.
What’s Included in a Humminbird MEGA Live 2 Explorer Ice Bundle
-
9" Explorer head unit
-
Screen cover
-
Gimbal bracket
-
MEGA Live 2 transducer
-
Power and network cables
-
Pole mounting accessories
-
HD Innovations Shuttle
-
Amped Outdoors lithium battery
-
HD Innovations pole
-
SCHEELS Outfitters shuttle bag
Expert Tip | Install the screen cover right away to prevent scratches while assembling the rest of the system. Set the display aside for now.
Step 2: Prepare the HD Innovations Shuttle
Open the small hardware box that comes taped to the HD Innovations Shuttle. Inside, you’ll find:
-
Pole holders
-
Bolts, nuts, washers
-
Allen keys and wrench
Step 3: Open the Shuttle & Mount the Gimbal Bracket
-
Loosen the thumb screws on the front of the shuttle and set them aside.
-
Grab your gimbal bracket.
-
On the shuttle, there are several holes where you can mount your bracket. The farther forward you mount your bracket, the more room you’ll have for cable management. If you’re using a shuttle bag, you’ll want to mount it slightly back. This ensures that the shuttle will fit in the bag. Choose which set of holes works best for you and align the bracket.
-
Position the gimbal bracket so the openings on each arm faces forward, allowing easy screen removal.
-
Find 4 bolts, 4 of the bigger washers, and 4 of the nuts.
-
Take one of the bolts and thread it through the right hole from the inside of the shuttle. Then place the washer and then the nut. Hand tighten.
-
Repeat the process for the other three bolts.
-
Take your small Allen wrench and wrench to tighten each bolt, but don’t over tighten!
Step 4: Install the Battery
-
Within your shuttle, loosen the battery strap fully.
-
Slide the battery into the molded compartment in the back of the shuttle. You'll feel it lock in place. When placing your battery in the shuttle, make sure the battery terminals face out and are to the side of the shuttle.
-
Connect the terminals: Black to black (negative) and red to red (positive).
-
Secure the battery using the strap.
Step 5: Prepare the Display Unit & Modify Cables
Find your Humminbird display unit and all the cables that were included. There are two power cables that you need to power your unit—the short cable powers the display and the long cable powers the transducer.
-
Find your short cable and unwrap it.
-
There are two plugs on one end of the cable. You don’t need these.
-
Take a wire cutter or scissors, cut off both plugs, and strip a small amount to expose the wire.
-
Twist each one.
-
On the shuttle, find the red wire. Flip both switches up (you’ll use the second spot for your transducer cable).
-
Take your small power cord, find the red wire, put it in place on the red, and snap close.
-
On the shuttle, find the black wire. Flip both switches up (you’ll use the second spot for your transducer cable).
-
On the small power cord, find the black wire, put it in place, and snap close.
-
Find your longer cable and unwrap it.
-
Repeat the exact same process for the cable as you did for the small cable.
Step 6: Route Cables Through the Shuttle
Carefully feed both power cables up through the shuttle’s cable port. Leave enough slack to connect everything cleanly and tuck excess wiring inside the shuttle.
Step 7: Connect Cables to the Display
-
Before mounting the screen:
- Plug the short power cable into the display and twist-lock it into place.
-
Next, connect the Ethernet/network cable (this connects the display unit to the transducer):
-
One end goes into the Ethernet port on the display.
-
Route excess cable back into the shuttle.
-
Step 8: Connect the Transducer
-
Connect the Ethernet cable from the display to the MEGA Live transducer.
-
Connect the transducer power cable to the transducer.
Tuck any remaining cable back into the shuttle for clean cable management.
Step 9: Mount the Display
-
Place the display into the gimbal bracket.
-
Adjust as needed and tighten the side knobs.
-
Close the shuttle and reinstall the thumb screws.
Remove the screen cover and power on the system to confirm everything is working correctly.
Step 10: Install Pole Holders
Find your two pole holders. Using the large Allen key:
-
Loosen each pole holder.
-
Slide them onto the top rail of the shuttle.
-
Align them evenly with the shuttle edges.
-
Tighten just until snug—overtightening can crack the shuttle.
-
Wrap any additional cable around your shuttle.
Step 11: Mount the MEGA Live Transducer to the Pole
Find your transducer pole. Remove the hardware kit.
-
Find the Humminbird knob. Take off two of the rubber stoppers so you have enough room.
-
Find the Humminbird adapter.
-
Align the adapter’s tab to the pole so it locks into place.
-
Position the transducer (forward or down mode) onto the pole.
-
Secure using the HD Innovations knob.
Expert Tip | Loosen the knob fully when changing transducer orientation to avoid snapping or binding.
Step 12: Load Everything Into the Shuttle Bag
Using a shuttle bag protects your investment from snow, slush, and transport damage.
-
Open the back of the bag fully (front and back).
-
Thread the transducer pole through the rear opening.
-
Store the transducer in the side cinch pocket. Zip up the back.
-
Place the shuttle into the main compartment.
-
Secure it using the internal straps around the gimbal bracket.
-
Zip everything closed, leaving room for cable movement.
Install the transducer cover for added protection.
How to Charge the Battery
You never need to reopen the shuttle to charge your battery.
-
Open the charging port on the front of the shuttle.
-
Plug your battery cord into the port.
-
Connect to power and charge.
Your Humminbird MEGA Live 2 Explorer ice bundle is now fully assembled, protected, and ready to fish. With integrated sonar technology, clean cable routing, and a shuttle setup, you’ll be ready to hole-hop or settle in with confidence.
