I paired a 7’9” XH Mojo with an Lexa 400 size reel intended to be used off boat for bigger striper fishing or from beach. Tried casting soft plastics just to test, it was beautifully handled by both. Finish and packing excellent 1 star less for below. My concern stems from the listed weights 2-6 oz does not match what was sent to me showing the same model rod as printed on the rod as 1-3 oz. I ordered the correct model rod from Tackledirect but St.Croix shipped direct, took 3wks to be delivered. Both St.Croix and Tackledirect sites advertise 2-6oz for the rod. The new models (Green blanks) are ok I’m not thrilled with the cork material on them and I don’t think they are as durable as the previous ones but still solid rods. I also have 2 of the Avid Inshore rods and they are incredible so if you can afford to spend the extra $100 I would definitely go with the Avid Inshore rods they are much lighter and more sensitive with a lifetime warranty that St Croix stands behind. When I first bought this rod, I hadn’t noticed that the tip was completely bent. For it being an almost 200 dollar rod that should have never been sold or produced. Not only was it already bent, I went fishing out in New Jersey, first fish I had caught snapped the rod, ironically right under the bent tip. Terrible, embarrassing and disappointing are understatements. Then I go to claim my warranty, I was told 10-12 days and it became almost a month. Finally I received a email to call their customer service number. I waited over 1 hour on the phone just for them to tell me the only thing they can do is give me the same rod back (WITH A FEEEEE) or an upgrade. WHY I HAD TO PAY A FEE IS MIND BLOWING. So I’m now down 250 dollars and a garbage rod. Thank St.Croix. I have purchased over 10 St. Croix rods from the avid inshore to the triumph. Have had a great experience until I got ahold of the new Mojo inshore. All four of my Mojos inshores have broke and was not caused by user error. The first two broke while I was anchoring the hook to the rod tip. The rods bent down to the 3rd or 4th eyelet and snapped. I thought it was defective batch but my second one broke the same way however I purchased the it from a different store (leads me to think they came from a different batch). The last two broke while I was hooked into a fish. One was a 10 inch black sea bass and the other was a 13 inch puppy drum. Super disappointed with my purchase. I have hooked into monsters with the previous model and had Zero issues. On my second trip throwing a 1/2oz lure it broke below the second eye. So I filled out on line paperwork, sent pictures and even a video while on the water so they could not say I shut it in the car door or something. So they called the guy presented to me that it was only going to be $25 not $50 for shipping since it was just two months old. My thought was it should have been free !!! So this is the real issue for me I wanted to up grade to a medium fast same rod and same length. It’s also the same price!!! So why was I charged a total of $45. Rod felt really great in my hand and I was amazed after the first cast. After fishing with it for a week straight throwing spinnerbaits and jigs I was still simply amazed how I was able to put my bait where I wanted it every single cast. The feel of the rod and the sensitivity is amazing. I could literally feel every time the blade on my spinnerbait would make a rotation as I reeled it in. Handled redfish with ease but still made it exciting. Hands down one of the best rods for the money. Been using it with the Calcutta 51XT and Calcutta Conquest 51 for trout fishing. Caught an 18\"-19\" Rainbow Trout yesterday with it and was a little worried. Not for the rod but for the 4lb fluorocarbon leader that I had on as I believe the drag was set a bit high. Even so, the trout was still pulling drag. The rod was doubled over and the fish had run under the docks I was fishing from. Plenty of backbone though to pull the fish out from under and use the net to land em. I like a rod that has some bend, and this rod has plenty right through the mid section. The way that this rod flexes, to me, aids in the ability to cast lures that are on the lighter side. I don't care for broom sticks, I can't cast with em to save my life but this rod, is simply awesome!
