That probably safeguarded her vitals. As bad as it was, it could have been worse. This vest has held up over two seasons and still looks great. I do have to empty debris and burrs from the inside of the vest every hour or two. I don't think there is a way to avoid it. In addition to the visibility, it provides wonderful protection! She is only 31 lbs. This vest in XS fits like a glove. Not too tight, not loose. The velcro on top is NEVER going to come undone in the field, its actually a bit overkill on the XS. Comes up high to protect her chest and neck. Belly area is thin neoprene, so less protection, but fits great.
