After 3 years of IVF our baby was born a bit premature and had a BRUE at 1 month. ( yeah, I didn't know this was a thing either!!!). I ordered it same day at 2 am in the ER, spent another 8 hours at the hospital monitoring. Thankfully we haven't had another incident and right when we stopped using it baby came down with croup. I was glad I could put her back in our room and feel comfortable knowing she was not having difficulties breathing, and when she WAS! Everything seemed normal—our daughter had been sleeping, eating, and playing like usual. She’s a great sleeper and always wears her Owlet sock at night. But because we arrived late and were all exhausted from the trip, we didn’t unpack anything except pajamas and toiletries. That night, she was restless—tossing and whining in her sleep—but we chalked it up to teething and the long travel day.\r\n\r\nThe next morning, we were all exhausted, and my daughter looked more than just tired. My family and I agreed it was probably just the new place, the time change, and a need for a good nap. It all made sense—but my mama instincts kicked in. Before heading out to explore, I decided to put her Owlet sock on, just to double-check her vitals while she napped with Grandma.\r\n\r\nAs soon as I slipped the sock on, it gave a reading—and alarms went off immediately. Her oxygen level was only 79%.\r\n\r\nWe rushed to the emergency room. The nurses took her vitals the moment we walked in and rushed her to a room. They were shocked at how alert and calm she was for someone with such dangerously low oxygen levels. After testing and being admitted to the Critical Care Unit, she was diagnosed with bronchiolitis. She needed oxygen support until her levels stabilized, and we ended up staying for 3 nights.\r\n\r\nWe had no warning signs. Just a little extra fussiness we had blamed on travel. I am forever thankful we had that Owlet sock with us. Without it, we would’ve assumed she just needed rest—and that could have been devastating.\r\n\r\nIf you’re on the fence about getting a health monitor for your child—do it. Even if you only use it when your child is feeling a little off, it can make all the difference. It did for us.\r\n\r\nThank you, Owlet. We still use it for both of them. While you do receive a notification as they get older that it’s “not a medical device,” the sock still provides us parents so much relief. My older son has asthma and allergies. If he’s sick or had a rough day with allergies we still throw the sock on him to monitor heart and oxygen. We are very aware the device does not replace our providers, but in the middle of a Sunday night when he has a cold, it provides us peace of mind. We love it so much, we bought for our 2 month old and use every day for him.
