Rubber prevents damage to the bolt and the short gripping area on bolt allow for extraction when bolt has really buried itself in 20 -40 yard range. Have not tried the nock de-activator as I do not have any lighted bolts as yet. Really helps when groups are tight and can't get fingers between shafts in
