After the first day of shooting I expected some sort of dimpling and by appearance there was some. But I ran my hand access the steel and it was silky smooth still. The only bummer is that on shot 5 or so my buddy center punched the bolt and the bolt head popped off which shut us down on that steel for the day. Excellent quality product. The industry standard sizes are in even numbers and generally top out at 12\". If you aren't training for a specific shooting discipline (USPSA, IDPA, etc.) this diameter plate works just fine. I have used Caldwell's 3/8\"plates with both rifle and pistol and the plates have stood up just as well as my other 3/8\" AR500 plates. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend these to new shooters and those who just want a large gong but aren't training for a specific kind of competition.
