{"reviews":[{"id":6871966,"locale":"en_US","rating":1,"title":"TNF not what they used to be","text":"I bought this jacket from a North Face store at the base of Park City/Canyons while on a ski trip from Colorado. I haven't bought a TNF product in a long time but did so largely because one of my ski buddies has a TNF jacket and had received very good service on repairs of his jacket over the years. Sadly, TNF isn't what they used to be. My Ceptor Jacket developed problems with the main front zipper with in about 7 ski days. At first it wouldn't zip together correctly and I'd have to fiddle with it to get to zip up. It would remain functional for a while, then start having issues again. Then, finally it gave up entirely. It just would not stay zipped for any amount of time. This occurred before the first ski season had completed. I followed TNF's instructions on their website, shipped my jacket to Texas of all places in late February 2025. Little did I know the nightmare that would ensue. First they send me an email saying they can't repair my jacket and they gave me a coupon to buy another one from a TNF store. What they DON'T tell you is that although the store I bought it from is labelled as \"The North Face\" at the base of Vail ski resorts, it is NOT a TNF store. TNF stores mostly just sell fashion clothing in malls now, not upper end ski or outdoor gear. I could ONLY use this coupon at an \"official\" TNF store and oh, shocker! They don't have this jacket or anything like it! Now I'm about as mad as I can be for spending hundreds of dollars on a jacket by a brand I THOUGHT I could trust! I called the facility in TX and spoke with a couple people who were very cordial and polite, but empowered to do absolutely nothing. I asked them to send my original jacket back and cancel the coupon that was now worthless to me. Crickets. Dead silence. I got so mad I demanded they send my original jacket back so I could find a local repair shop to try to fix the zipper, then I hung up. I've never received my original jacket back and there is never an identical jacket in my size available on the TNF website or in their TWO locations in Denver. So, not only do I have a coupon that isn't worth the paper or bits it's printed on, but they have absconded with the jacket I bought and couldn't even ski a full season in! I am DONE with North Face. That is to the credit of the Ceptor (and a little to the detriment of the Summit series); so far it seems like a great jacket. I've worn it on a few early season days in the Sierras and it's been a capable replace for my 2012 summit series jacket. The sleeves allow plenty of freedom of movement. The powder skirt is adjustable enough that it fits well without being noticeable. The zippers work pretty well and are easy enough to grab with gloves on.
