Hammock is a breeze to set up after a single practice run. I was a little nervous about setting up a tarp over it since the bars for the mesh make it wider at the top, but it was no problem at all. Using an underquilt was tricky and I opted to do a low inflation on a sleeping pad inside the hammock instead, and there’s enough room for that to work too. Honestly what was I even doing before getting this???? Huge upgrade, huge quality of life improvement for wild camping! Keep a Tecnu wipe in the bag for your feet and you can happily camp above an ocean of poison ivy! Be mindful of the amount of tension and angle of the straps off the tree (use proper tree straps). I sorta wish the net had a zipper on each side. The spreader bar pockets can be annoying to deal with when setting up. Using with a fly is easy enough, the key is managing the height with the netting tensioned. The overall weight with a fly is comparable to a decent back-packing tent, taking up a similar amount of space in your pack. For trips in the back-county with lots of trees and limited flat ground for a tent, this hammock fits the bill nicely. After I got mine, my boys both wanted their own, and they prefer it when they can for Scouting campouts (me, too).
