And when they came out with this gnarly and awesome serrated version of the Kobun not too long ago. Well, I jumped at the chance to buy one. I think I own two actually, haha. Not to mention all of the plain edge versions I own as well. \r\n\r\nLike I mentioned, I loved and carried the original plain edge version. But, to me, there is something much more menacing about having those kick butt serrations with the knife that makes me feel even safer.\r\n\r\nI think this relatively inexpensive blade would work well attached to your belt, tucked or clipped snugly into a boot, attached to your pack or gear or just anywhere that you can secure it safely. I remember when the original came out that I was watching one of my favorite television shows, NCIS. And the character, Ziva David, carried what was obviously a Cold Steel Kobun plain edge as her personal blade and she even instructed the other team members in an episode how to throw knives using 3 or 4 Kobuns. I thought that was so cool. I’ve seen Cold Steel blades and weapons pop up in many TV shows and movies. It’s always super rad when that happens :P.\r\n\r\nAs for the practical uses of the Kobun and its durability. Well, I keep mine for self defense honestly and haven’t actually used it that much. But, I believe as long as you don’t misuse it and try to chop down a small tree or some other ludicrous venture. That this blade should hold up for a really long time. I mean it’s built in my opinion as a self defense, combat or last-ditch defense knife and I believe it should be used that way.\r\n\r\nI will always give any version of the Kobun five-stars, easily. In fact, except for the huge price tag. I’m thoroughly excited about the upcoming, Lynn Thompson Signature Edition Kobun. It appears to have a clip point type blade as opposed to the standard tanto like on this one. It just looks so rad. I hope I can afford that version when it releases. \r\n\r\nBut, as I was saying, I happily rate the Kobun line really high. Still, I’m not a fan of the rather weak feeling clip that comes with the knife. On each one I have bought from here I immediately remove the default standard clip and replace it with a Blade-Tech brand Tek-Lok belt attachment that I get from Amazon. It does make the overall profile of this blade larger with that new clip. Yet, the original clip on the sheath just would not stay clipped to the side of my pants or belt and I love to carry the Kobun. So I had to find some alternative means to do so and the Tek-Lok works great in my opinion. \r\n\r\nI would recommend if you do the same, though. To make sure to use all of the original screws and spacers, basically everything that attached the original clip to the Kobun, minus the clip itself, of course. And use those pieces to attach the Tek-Lok to the Kobun’s sheath, instead of the same type of items that come with the Tek-Lok belt attachment. I hope that makes sense. I’ve seen someone else recommend this as well on Amazon and he was correct. It works much better using the original everything minus the clip itself, that attached the default clip to the Kobun sheath I believe. Again, I hope all of that explanation made clear sense.\r\n\r\nOverall, though, I just could not be happier with my awesome new serrated version of the classic Cold Steel Kobun knife. If you already own the plain edge version or if you haven’t bought this blade before. Then I highly recommend picking it up now in this new, meaner serrated form. My first impression was the handle was too thin and short, but I like it now. The serrations are incredibly sharp. I use it as a utility knife cutting through tuff boxes and packaging, but it would make a great boot or holdout knife as well. I would not want to be slashed by this thing. You should see what it does to a piece of meat.
