Adding something like the low cut, punch-through, neoprene wrist closures as seen on the NRA Champion jacket to the ankles of these would make them perfect. Or if they had the NRA Sandal Socks built in or shipped with them.The biggest issue, and it's enough to make me look for something else once these wear out, is they let dirt, pebbles and sand in like a magnet. They don't rinse out easy either. Drying time is on the long side for a water shoe. Unless you are able to set in the sun for 5-6 hours or dry by campfire, expect to wear wet shoes the next day. For the price (more than standard Vans or Chucks), I feel like they should include the NRS Sandal Socks as an option.
