I originally purchased this shoe to wear on my \"easy\" field days when my biggest worry is being on my feet for long periods. I was looking for something breathable, supportive, comfortable, and with good traction. These seemed to check all the boxes. \nI've been trying to like them for 8 months now. They felt decent out of the box, but as soon as I hit the trail I found them to be mushy, unstable, and lacking in support. It became quickly became apparent they wouldn't be my trail shoes. I'll admit though, the aesthetic is good so I keep trying to find ways to wear them. I've tried swapping in a few different insoles, but to no avail. Even wearing casually around town, my feet feel fatigued from the moment I put them on. Somehow every mile feels like 3. At least I'm getting a workout. They are not true to size though. Order half size up. My feet have been abused, beginning with the old USMC combat boots from the 1980's, from long hours on cement, in heavy steel toe/met guard shoes, in extreme heat of a steel mill and from neglecting to care for my feet. I have spent hundreds of dollars, trying to find a warm weather shoe, that I can wear all day and remain comfortable. It's been 3 weeks in the Anacapa Breeze Low and I am a Hoka fan. My feet feel much better, I am not as fatigued and the quality of these shoes is exceeding my expectations. They breathe, my feet sweating is greatly reduced from GTX shoes and the shoes dry much faster than GTX shoes. The footbed is cushioned, not soft and delivers a spring like return. They provide excellent stability on loose or off camber terrain. I ordered the Mid style yesterday. Developing plantar fasciitis, I looked for shoes with more cushion. I tried both the Hoka Bondi 8 and the Clifton 9 models. While the Bondi 8's were painful, the Clifton 9 was PERFECT! The plantar fasciitis pain went away immediately. I bought SIX pairs of Clifton 9's, getting extras as they were being discontinued, just in case.\n\nWith a family vacation planned to Rocky Mountain National Park, I knew we were going to be hiking a lot. I already had a pair of Columbia Men's Konos TRS hiking shoes, but knew they were going to get wet. Also, with some lighter hikes, I wanted plush and lightweight hiking shoes.\n\nWhile the Clifton 9's are great for pavement or dry Texas gravel walkways, the foam bottoms were not a great match for mountain hikes with melting snow. Seeking something with more of a hiking sole that could take a beating, and do a better job protecting my feet on rocks and roots, I searched the Hoka site for something plush like the Clifton 9, but more rugged. That landed me on the Hoka Anacapa Breeze Low.\n\nAlso considered the Anacapa 2 Mid GTX, Anacapa Breeze Mid, hallenger 7, Kaha 3 GTX, Kaha 3 Low GTX, Speedgoat 6, and Mafate X models. But the Anacapa Breeze Low seemed to be the best model for me based on the description, stats, weight, photos, and reviews. Out of the box they looked like exactly what I wanted. Unfortunately, they weren't it.\n\nOn my very first walk, they hurt my feet. The heel drop wasn't a good match for my mid-heel gait. They reminded me of the discomfort I felt with the Bondi 8's. Also, they were not available in wide sizes, which should not have mattered. But there was a serious pinch point on the outside of my toes. After a few tries, I returned them. I am usually a men's 10.5, but the 11's fit well. Maybe because they are designed to be a tight fit for runners? I just use them as a speed walking shoe.
