Loyal like the real thing.","text":"5 years ago, I was tired of cycling through cheap Walmart work boots every four to six months. \n\nI found my dads old zip hunt boots and I liked them but I needed a safety toe boot.\n\nI bought a pair of Ashby 83606 aluminum toe work boots.\n\nDue to how leather boots work, they needed to be broken in. Well. I just got some thin foam I had on hand, and it helped the process. Honestly? You might want to spend the extra $10 for insoles rather than $40-100 for boots that will fall apart anywhere from every 3 months-1 year.\n\nBy week 2 wearing them every day, they were broke in. \n\nAnd by God, these boots have endured immeasurable amounts of abuse. \nThey lived through concrete. They lived through metalworking.\nThey lived through asphalt paving.\nThey at some points got covered in hot glue from a cabinet factory. \n\nMy pants caught on fire while grinding steel. The boots singed but survived.\nI've walked over beaming coals from fire in efforts to put out said fire. \nAlso, asphalt is really hot too. \n\nThere is no way any other boot really adds up to the durability and value that these boots keep over time.\n\n\nSo now, 5 years later, after multiplied cross-employment abuse the threading is finally coming apart. \n\nThese things have been more loyal than girlfriends I've had in the past. They endured the hardest jobs and simply asked to just replace strings from time to time. \n\nAnd the thing is? They're still fixable, if I wanted. Even if they are worn, they could still be worn. And since they have been broken in and beyond, they're actually still comfortable. \n\nBut, it's time to retire these like an old war general. \n\nI bought a pair last week of 83605s the non safety boot simply for casual use. Just because the color of this boot is unique. It's snazzy, it adds a modern take on classic 40's 50's style. \nAnd (as far as my grandfather told me at a young age) just like in the 50's, these boots not only have the looks, but also keep what we sell here good.\n\nOther companies would rather cycle inferior products and waste materials, but it seems like Irish Setter and Red Wing genuinely put thought, time, and effort to the products they ship out. \nIt's not just about profit, it's principle. Reliability. I am working anywhere from an office to a corn field, and live in ND so 7 months are cold and snowy! These boots are the most comfortable boots I've had, the structure of the boot holds up well and the leather cleans up well. After a strong 9 years of use, the leather is starting to tear on the toes. As an electrician, I couldn’t ask for a better boot. I wear em even when I’m not at work. I recently bought a new pair to replace the last pair that I bought 5 years ago. something has changed. I don't know if it's the manufacturing location or materials or what. In all my previous pairs my toes have plenty of wiggle room even before being broken in but the latest pair that I just ordered pinch to the point I will have to return them and find a new go to boot. My first pair of boots last me like two years but only for casual use, then i bought another pair and started using my first irish setter for work and oh man, they felt great even though they were 2 years old, so I started doing the same, have two pairs of irish setters one for work and one for casual use.
