This steel toe is high heeled, perfect for a short person like me, and it is slip resistant even though there are dirt clogged into the creases of the sole. You can use the boot dryer with it. \n\nAs for the shoes being waterproof, it can protect you from the water up to the top of the shoe, as long as you don't trample through puddles of water. Not too bad when boots got wet. I tried to find the same pair of this steel toe that I wore in Conservation Corp, it seems they are not making any new ones of this anymore. Been thru several brands and styles. But these have by far been the most comfortable. Good on all terrains Ive Been in. Heavy gravel - snow - ice - cement - uneven floor - catwalks - oil & fluids - dirt mud. The pair Ive had maintained pure comfort for 2 years it could honestly just use a fresh insole but use my yearly boot vouchers to get another pair anyhow. I have noticed the laces tend to not last on the most recent pairs (the black and brown pair were purchased more than a year ago). Buying replacement laces is no longer an option because Red Wing/Irish Setter are always sold out of the 63 inch black/brown and black laces.\r\n\r\nFor the first year or two of the boots life I wear them daily on construction sites and then I purchase a new pair and use the old pair on my farm. To be a fair review I will say my time on construction sites is a superintendent role so I'm walking, climbing ladders, helping here and there, but it is not constant trade role where it is in the field labor day-in day out. When I pass them down to farming the sole has cracks right at the heel of the boot and the leather has varied from fine to a few cracks. The sole issue has happened on every pair I've owned so I know it is more than just a fluke. It seems the more walking you do the more that split happens.\r\n\r\nThese boots hold up very well on the farm as well and will remain waterproof. I've had one pair leak and I'm not sure if the water came in through the footbed due to broken sole or through the terribly cracked leather but those boots were in really bad shape from neglect and working in clay. I rarely do anything to these boots - I wear them day-in day-out and on occasion I will clean them and then use mink oil on them.\r\n\r\nAlso worth noting is I have a high arch and the insoles do not support that very well so I purchase a formed insole to make them more comfortable. I know Red Wing/Irish Setter has replacement insoles and I have not tried them but I use a different brand that work quite well. I certainly recommend these boots...at least the Mesabi Steel Toe Waterproof model because those are the only ones I have purchased. Save your money and get something different.
