It offers a perfect fit straight out of the box, allowing you to hike miles and miles comfortably without noticing it. Remarkably, its performance improves over time as the leather molds to your foot, likely due to its unique radial design—a fortunate choice. As an avid hiker who enjoys long treks with some rock scrambling, I find its grip unmatched. Unlike heavy, inflexible shoes that can compromise safety and enjoyment on rocky terrain, this shoe excels. I also wear it daily—why choose less comfortable footwear? I’ve gone through probably 25 pairs since 2011 and dread the day production stops. The Targhee model, while equally comfortable for general use, is slightly less flexible and precise on rocks due to its design.\nNo product is flawless, and the Voyageur has minor drawbacks:\n-The sole wears out quickly, a trade-off for its exceptional grip, thinning significantly after a number of hikes (in the order of 15-30 probably), requiring shoes replacement.\n-The medial hook near the ankle can catch the opposite shoe’s lace, risking a trip. I have flat feet and my left ankle rolls in too much and causes pain in my knee and hip at night. I have inserts to keep my ankle upright but needed a sturdy boot to support. It took a couple of days to adjust, but after that all of the pain in my knee and hip are gone. I bought these for every day use and have had them for maybe three weeks. I am very pleased with them. For hiking you want a snug fit in the ankle, heel, and instep, and a bit of roominess in the forefoot and toe box. In Keen-speak, that is what \"original fit\" means. As the miles go by, your forefoot spreads out and needs some room. Shoes build on the running shoe last just do not cut it for hiking, even if they work for you on the sidewalks in your neighborhood. Voyageurs have THE BEST combination of \"original fit\" and ventilation. They are not offered in a \"waterproof\" version -- if that's what you need or want, I suggest the Targhee IV: slightly heavier, slightly less flexible, but very close. The Targhee IV is offered only in \"waterproof\", for which you pay a price in ventilation.
