Comfortable straight out of the box-- took them on several small hikes and wore them casually to break them in. Only after I went out for my first hunt did I discover that the heel rubs badly. 2\" square chunk of my heel skin gone after only 4 miles of partial side-hilling. I was wearing Darn Tough wool socks; perhaps a change in thickness would help? Buy a pair IF. . . .","text":"Last year I bought a pair of Bridger Mid boots. The fit was great, but they were too short for my hunting needs. I reviewed them as needing a little improvement for the guys who go through a lot of bushes like I do. \nWhen I saw the Bridger Ridge, I had to buy them. I took them to the Sierras for 4 days of brutal off-trail side-hilling, rocky, sandy, and gravel terrain. I was concerned with some discomfort around the outer ankle. I wore the boots with both thinner and sometimes thicker socks. Despite hours of sidehilling, the boots did not bother the outer ankle. They broke in fairly well in that area. The rest of the boot fit was great. Roomy in the toe box but with a good fit around the rest of the foot. Some adjustments to the shoe laces actually made a difference, transitioning from casual comfort to a more snug fit for rugged terrain. I was carrying a 20-bl pack.\nI went through some creks with no problem. My feet remained dry. \nThe sole grips well. Overall, a very functional piece that would fit the needs of most who explore difficult terrain or who need to keep debris out. They are surprisingly light and comfortable with your own inner sole. I found the factory inner sole to have a high arch that my feet do not like. \nIf you want to hike well-maintained trails, these boots might be a little warm and overkill. But if you are going to explore the mountains with a pack in all kinds of terrains and do some serious bushwacking, these are a great choice. \nDurability might not be a problem, but the Gore-Tex on the tongue will wear with the bushes, and waterproofing might fail on the tongue are over time.\nOverall a great choice at a fair price with very good fit. In the never-ending quest to find the perfect boots, these offer a bit more cushion than say the big backpacking boots from Salomon, but they are not as robust with big chunks of heel chipping away after just one 4 mile hike at 10K ft. The fit is nice and stable, waterproof and suppprtive with room in the toes while maintaining a confident blister free feel for those with funky ankles, but OMG are they hot! I mean hot, like insulated winter boot hot! In the end all Goretex boots are warm. These are extra, extra warm.
