Peax Torrid Hot Tent Stove

However, it does get a couple of knocks to it that prevent me from giving it a 5 star rating. It's likely that it's just the nature of such a delicate piece, but extra pipe rings should be included not needed to be purchased separately. Initial set up and burn in went fine in the yard, but the first time in the field three of the rings broke during set up. Thankfully I had prefabbed two additional rings from trapping wire and brought them with. This leads to the second issue. The reason I had brought the wire was that the pipe rests too tightly on the damper to allow it to slide correctly. Some wire and a Leatherman allowed me to raise it slightly and (gently) snug it tight to the stove pipe adapter. This seemed to do the trick. Lastly, the damper itself warped on day 3 of an 8 day hunt and would no longer slide. As others have mentioned, this is likely unavoidable with thin metal and heat, but it did require several disassemblys to pound out flat. Overall it's assembly and function are what a guy can reasonably expect, to have the luxury of a stove weighing 2lbs on a backcountry hunt. It really puts out the heat and had a much longer burn time than expected considering a collapsible stove is never gonna be airtight. Thanks Peax! Heat the tent well.","text":"I like the design. It was a little fiddly to first assemble, but after burning it in it was much faster the second time. The fit of the body of the stove isn't 100% perfect, but it works. Used it once at home in the yard with dry wood. Worked great. Used it once in the field with only scrub willow to burn...none of which was dry. That was tough...the stove did great, I was surprised to even get a fire going considering how wet the wood was (even with bark and exterior stripped off). The stove did a great job of bringing air in and drying the nearby wood. I don't think I would have been sucessful getting that stuff to burn in the open without the stove. The trapezoidal shape of the stove box seemed to naturally provide the right air flow the help that wet stuff burn. I've had stoves from TiGoat, Kifaru and SO. The engineering and thought that went into the design of this stove sets it in a class by itself. At the end of a long day, I have often decided to skip setting up my other stoves because it was such a pain to put them together and fool with all thread rods and wing nuts. This stove eliminates all of that. The assembly is so easy and simple it's amazing it took this long for this design to happen.
