I managed to hook into a 400lbs Goliath Grouper using this combo set with 50lb braid and a 60 mono leader. I lost the 1st one which I'm sure was another Goliath. The 2nd one I got to the surface. I bought this set to catch snapper and other bottom fish and the deck hands couldn't believe I caught it on that rod and reel set. Still very happy with my purchase. Personally I use it for catfishing rather then saltwater. Using 50lb braid it works great. Only problem I've had is being new to baitcaster reels is it took me a while to learn casting. Cant get slot of distance but hardly any birdnests now. Another thing I really love is penn including a whole diagram of how to disassemble the reel. Just in case I need repairs in the future. Pole is absolutely tough as nails. Got snagged on a tree in the water one day and my 50lb line actually snapped before the pole even started giving. I soon discovered how powerful these rods really are when I locked onto a 15 lb cod while wreck fishing in the North Sea . The curve of the rod is progressive , so don't be fooled by the ultra slim tip and the reel had more than enough power cope .
