The troubles started when I had to replace the filter. First, it was difficult to get everything lined up just right so the water would flow correctly again. Then, the replacement filters didn't work. Within a week, there is a black residue throughout the fountain. Disgusting. I tried replacing the filters again, same problem. Now, I'm going to try running it with just the outer foam filter. Doesn't take up a lot of space. Quite, on wood floor I put a piece of styrofoam under to reduce sound travel. Cats are using it. Would prefer it was not plastic.\nOne threw up in it and it was easy to clean. Put new filter in after cleaning and pump works well. Luckily I had the pump unplugged when the incident occurred. Not sure how it would have affected the pump if it had been running. The adjustable water flow is a nice feature.\n\nI have 2 larger ceramic fountains also, they have different water flow (not adjustable), so the cats can use the waterer that suits them. I have the larger one but I feel like I have to clean that out more and it’s a pain. The smaller one is more simpler to clean and I just have to fill it up every few days with extra water to increase the level. The water flows well with the filters and they can be used in the large ones as well so I didn’t need to do get extra accessories because I stocked up. My dog is anxious and scared and the water fountains that make bubbles when the water goes low scares her and makes her jump. I checked reviews and for the cost this seemed good. The first day our cat didn't want to drink from it but by the next day he was definitely drinking from it. He's drinking way more now! It was very easy to assemble. It produces some noise but not loud. By nature cats prefer to drink from trickling water as opposed to standing water and this fountain is a great option. It is not overly noisy and I like that you can adjust the pressure.
