I cleaned it every 10 days or so, and had no issues but decided to replace it with a new one from Amazon. The pump on that one, and the two replacements all failed within in a couple of weeks. I returned the last unit and bought one from Chewy. Same thing, failed in a couple of weeks. Water, etc. hasn't changed at our house. Everything was great until the pump went out. I went on the web sight with the intention of buying a new pump. But after reading the company’s feedback on a bad review, I decided to follow their directions and clean the pump myself. It was super easy! First, I didn’t even know the pump came apart. But after 3 easy steps, I found all parts gunked with mold buildup. I cleaned everything and put it back together. Plugged it in, and VOILA! Success!!!
