My younger cats don’t have an issue drinking from standing bowls or fountains, but my senior isn’t much of a drinker. He loves this thing though. He’s always at it, which makes me feel good because he needs his fluids!\r\n\r\nI’m not the best at keeping up with the cleaning so the plastic ones aren’t my friend. The ones where you have to lift off the lid are also a little bit of a hassle for me to fill/know when the water is low, so being able to pour it right into the bowl is a dream. Easy to clean and maintain! Holds a good amount of water — I top it off every 36-48 hours it seems with 3 cats. Since there’s no lid, there’s minimal splashing and mess when refilling or reassembling after cleaning. \r\n\r\nI just bought a second one. I wanted to encourage my cat to drink more water after he didn't seem to drink much from a regular bowl. He does drink more water from the Seaside and thankfully it only took a day or so before he was comfortable drinking from it. You DO have to be very diligent about cleaning all parts of the fountain. Disassemble it per the instructions and clean each part individually. I use brushes and unscented castile soap so I won't impart any fragrances or tastes into my cat's water. I DID notice a leak this week from under the fountain but I'm pretty sure it was because I refilled the fountain above the \"max\" line. I'll keep a closer eye on it to make sure that was the case. Be sure to seat the grommet correctly too or you might induce leakage also. Overall I'm glad I bought this and replacement filters and parts are fairly easy to get online or at the local pet store. I also like that my cat can still access the water if the power goes out. It's a little larger than I needed for 1 cat so I went with the Seaside because of such good reviews and Tux was right on it! I have to say, the fountain came missing a small part, but I immediately called Customer Service and the small replacement part (plus an extra was sent to CA from IN within 2 days and my fountain was up and running in no time! But its so cumbersome and to change it I have to unplug it and take it all out. It even warns that it shouldnt run without minimum water so I really have to shut it down completely. It’s given great service over this time. I follow Petsafe’s recommendations for cleaning. We have particularly hard water where we live, so I do the recommended 50-50 vinegar soaks periodically to remove some of the scale. When we first got it, I called the company two or three times with questions. Terrific customer service representatives responded each time.\r\n\r\nWe have two cats. The first one was drinking water from the fountain within an hour of plugging it in for the first time. The other cat is a bit more timid, and took a week or two before she came around. But eventually she did. \r\n\r\nWe originally purchased this because the veterinarian was concerned that one of the cats was not drinking enough water and said we would have to start doing subcutaneous injections for hydration, unless we could get her to drink more.
