PetSafe Stubborn Dog In-Ground Fence

{"reviews":[{"id":7129823,"locale":"en_US","rating":1,"title":"Terrible Quality","text":"My boyfriend and I bought this collar this past weekend because we are having problems with our large dog digging under the fence and escaping the back yard. We decided to purchase this collar hoping that once he was caught outside the perimeter line, he’d learn his lesson after a shock or two and come back in the safe zone of the yard. Once we set up the boundary wire, my boyfriend and I, decided to test the collar ourselves to make sure there was no dead spots in the wired areas and also determine what shock level to set it at. Well we had it at level 1, well the collar did not beep to give the warning of the shock, nor did the collar shock once the boundary was crossed. Well this occurred at all levels 1-6. My boyfriend and i turned it up to level ten at that point, the collar beeped once we got close to the perimeter, and proceeded to shock once crossed. Well we thought the shock at level 10 was too intense for our dog, so we turned down to level 9 and continued to turned down to the lowest level that it would allow us to hear a beeping warning signal, and proceed to shock if perimeter was crossed. That level happened to be level 7. We shocked ourselves with the collar and thought it was still just a bit much, but enough to make him learn his lesson. Once we put the collar on our dog, it wasn’t too long before he was outside the perimeter line. Once he crossed the line the collar was at a constant shock and continued to shock and scare him to the point where he was on the ground and could barely move. My dog howling in pain as we are trying to get the collar off of him, which i might add is also very inconvenient set up of a collar, please turn it into a collar that buckles and does not have to looped through. My dog could barely catch his breath after the exhaustion of trying to escape the collar, and after the trauma he suffered he was sleeping the rest of the afternoon (which is unlike him to do so, and he is still a very active and energetic dog). Do better at making your products convenient. My dog can run through it no problem. Customer service replaced the transmitter, tried troubleshooting, nothing worked. It has suddenly stopped working although it appears to work. He hand dug the trench and everything. I know, fella is impressive. It works great so far. 2 of our 3 dogs are practically trained in a little under a week, though we are still following the instructions closely. The other pup is the stubborn one, for sure. I have a German Shepherd and roughly 2 acres for him to roam with the invisible fence. I even dug up the fence and moved it at one point. My dog would get out from time to time but it was he found a weak spot. It worked great for my GSD for about two months.. then he learned he could run through it.. and did so on a regular basis. If you have smaller dogs.. would highly recommend this fence system.. for bigger dogs... Not so much. Oh and i recently acquired a Caucaision Ovcharcta... she is now 8 months old and goes through it like it wasn't there. For me it was a waste of money. I also upgraded the burial wire to the max available... still runs through it. He runs through it every time we try to leave him in the yard. Poor design beeps when close to boundary and then only ONE ZAP when he is close and going through. Such a headache and expense for NOTHING! Even called Pet Smart and got no helpful suggestions. System is useless to us.
