I have the other ruffwear boots for hot pavement and figured these would be a worth a shot to help with not getting chemicals people clean floors with and such in certain areas on my girls pads after doing some reddit research.. and she loves em just as much as the others. I also love not having a super muddy paw-ed dog at times as I'm sure others appreciate as well and these stand up to all the slides and twirls and shimmies one can give. I am not a fan of the velcro closures of the shoes but mechanically I don't know how else it could be done. She always walls out of 1 rear shoes when walking. I cinch those tight too. This worries me about being on trails because I may not be watching her feet all the time as I am at the moment. However, I do agree with other reviewers about the protection from hot pavement; the Grip Trex that I have seem to offer more protection than these Hi & Light. For the really hot days, I use the Grip Trex, sacrificing breathability and weight. These Hi & Light are fine for warm pavement that is still too hot for a pup's paws, but don't cut it for scorching days. These also seem to hit lower on my dog's front paws than the Grip Trex; I must put socks on his feet first to keep them on and to prevent hotspots forming below his largest paw pad. I LOVE that they have the size imprinted on the bottom of each shoe, and also on the velcro part if you cinch it down tight enough. He likes them, they fir good, the bottom looks rugged for hard surfaces and they dry quick if they get wet. Our dog runs in the 1.25 (back) and 1.5 inch (front) Hi and Light trail shoes. They prevent his feet from getting sores on the pads when running on concrete or rocks on the trail. Ruffwear gives excellent tips for breaking in the shoes and training your dog to wear them. We started slow by having him wear them for \u003c5 min in the house for about a week to do tricks and get a bunch of treats. Then we worked up to taking him on a short walk, and eventually made the walk longer and longer until we started to run. He was too distracted by everything else on the walk to worry about his feet. The front shoes were a bit stiff, so we washed them with some tennis balls, and that helped work the rubber. We highly recommend the dog socks with the boots. They made a massive difference in wicking away moisture and preventing the boots from creating any wear spots. I'm convinced that shoes like these are essential for every dog that travels or traverses hot, hard, or hazardous terrain (such as snow and ice melt or weed killer sprayed on sidewalks). Air temps can reach 100 easily. We walk mostly in the early mornings or late evenings. If we walk on uneven gravel or mostly asphalt, as soon as the outside temperature hits 75, he wears his shoes. They have excellent grip that protects his pads, particularly when there is debris on the roads. The light fabric minimize heat absorption in his paws. The Hi & Light™ Trail dog shoes elevate the paw wear experience for dogs (and their humans) seeking a minimal and flexible solution to paw protection. Those paws get both protection and exceptional ground-feel with the soft, flexible rubber outsole, helping dogs keep their stride and focus on the adventure at hand. The engineered knit upper adds comfort and breathability and limits trail debris from getting in the shoe. The construction celebrates a less-is-more mindset to minimize material stackups and maximize comfort. The hook-and-loop closure opens wide for easy on and cinches around the narrowest part of the dog’s leg to provide a secure fit. It's a good idea to check the closure system and adjust fit as needed 15 minutes into your activity and throughout the adventure.
