The Shield magazines have allowed me to replace my 19 with the 43x as my EDC. \n\nPros: 50% increase in magazine capacity is no small thing. It’s amazing to have that many rounds available in such a small package. \n\nThe kit comes with the needed metal mag release so you don’t have to buy it separately. \n\nAlong with the kit, I purchased 2 extra magazines. While I didn’t have any feed issues with any of the magazines, some others have reported feed issues. So in that regard YMMV. Also, one of the three mags I bought is harder to load than the other two. The metal was formed in such a way that getting rounds in that particular magazine is a bit more challenging. Instead of just sliding in with Maglula, I really have to push to get them to seat properly. \n\nCons: You need to change the mag release. It’s not hard if you have the right tools, but I had a heck of a time installing it because the punch I tried to use kept rotating in my hand preventing me from pulling the little bar out so that you can slide the plastic mag release out. Once I purchased a sturdier pick, I had no problems. Not really Shield’s fault but still. \nYou can’t use OEM Glock mags once you’ve switched out the mag release. Well, you can but it will very quickly chew up the plastic (I mean polymer) on those mags basically ruining them. And given that these mags are a lot more expensive, it’s something to think about. \n\nAll in all, I’m happy with my purchase. Well worth the ability to have 15 rounds in the 43x. However, now that Palmetto Arms has their magazines that don’t require switching the mag release, allowing you to use Glock OEM magazines, if I had to do it again, I’d probably go that The S15 is a steel magazine, and is the same length as the OEM Glock 10 round magazine, but holds an additional 5 rounds. What changed with the gen 3 magazine? We made the following improvements: US-based manufacturer. Modular tooling. Raised ribs on the back of the magazine allows these to fully match the OEM magazine position in the mag well, which should eliminate any tolerance stacking that results from Glock frame variations.
