Opening takes some getting used too. I found the ambidextrous opening system cumbersome at first as my index finger was/is in the same position on the opposite side when using the thumb to release. A simple dexterity adjustment of my finger and all was good. The was a little slow at first. Applied a little WD40 and this improved it very much. \n\nThe blade came very sharp which is appreciated as I didn't have to spend hours bringing it to a proper sharpness!! I am happy with the product. For anyone considering their first this is a great knife. The function is not any faster than an assisted knife, but it is smooth and easy to perform. I also really like the safety feature so I have confidence it won't deploy when pulling out of my pocket. The knife is very slim but not too small that you lose it in your hand. A slim profile that goes unnoticed in my pocket, snappy opening, and it served it's basic function well. After a couple of months the blade retention screw started to loosen. I kept tightening it back and one day it just fell out somewhere and I couldn't find it. After contacting SOG twice for the \"lifetime warranty\" I have received no reply amd I have an unsafe paperweight. When it arrived April 27, I opened it to test the knife and tried to use the thumb release but would not open, Watched the online SOG site for this particular knife trying to figure out what I was doing wrong. After many attempts (over 30+), it finally opened but only partially, barely just outside the blade handle. If I flicked it after it barely opened it would completely out, but not always. This is not what I expected and this was my third purchase from SOG. Made in the USA appealed to me but something is wrong with the knife and it is not useable. The release switch is very hard to open and does not consistently open and rarely fully. I like everything about the knife, looks, blade, weight, but the automatic open feature is terrible. I may have gotten a poorly manufactured product, but not sure. Brand new from SOG online store. Just putting that out there for you.
