For our uses the cost is negligible, but the reward most apparent. I have a full range of Stihl equipment and I use Stihl Paltinum Bar Oil on all of the saws I own. Most of the 20 years as a sawyer was spent in the big timber of Oregon and ALL of my saws are well used and always professionally maintained to manufacturer spec. Well I have moved to a warmer climate as I begin my coast into retirement and run my tree business in Florida now and I have noticed that the Stihl Platinum Bar oil has a little trouble keeping up with the 90 degree and higher temps of central Florida. Apparently the old formula worked well. Now we have a new formula where some reviewers here and elsewhere on the web indicate does not work as well. There's the old saying, \"If it ain't broke, don't fix it.\" I will be looking at other brands of bar oil until Stihl comes to their senses and brings back the old tried and true version of bar oil.\r\n\r\nThe reason I bought a Stihl chainsaw (MS 250) in the first place was because I was willing to spend the extra amount to get a USA made reliable chainsaw. So if the reasoning for the new chainsaw bar and chain oil formula was to save a few cents for a slightly better profit, then Stihl does not understand their customer base. I want the best and am willing to pay for it, because in the long run, buying cheap chainsaws that break down more often cost me more in the long run, plus the cheap ones don't work as well. Over the past year Stihl did something to make the oil higher in viscosity, this looks like maple syrup coming out both 250 and 362CM. I can't keep the bars oiled enough now with the weather getting warmer. I had a gallon of the standard orange gallon jub of bar oil Stihl produced. The change was litterally going from bottle to bottle. I decided to try this 'Platium\" gallon of bar old and the only thing platinum about it is the price. It’s a clear color so pay attention when filling the tank, but the performance is top shelf! I’ve used it well below freezing and it flows just fine, especially when the Saw is good and warm. It protects in both the hot/humid weather and the cold. I do t use separate bar lines for cold weather any more. Just the platinum for all conditions! It does not clog up my tank or pump either.
