I am 5’7” 130 lbs and followed other reviewers comments and went with the M size. Despite having a great waist cinch cords I wish there was less material with the medium. Before I committed I did try the small and although the waist was great it did limit my shoulder and arm movement. I have slightly broader shoulders. Extremely warm, very flattering, love the huge hood, and the hand thumb holes are a great addition. Only negative is I struggle with the zipper. It kept me perfectly, toasty warm in -17F temps (-28C) with a 400gm Merino base layer and a heavy wool Nordic sweater mid-layer. I wore similar layers on the bottom, 2 layers of wool socks, and used hand and foot warmers, too). It performed equally well in warmer temps (17F - 32F) without over heating by layering accordingly. It paid for itself the day we went on the SAMPO Ice breaker ship cruise during a significant winter storm with gale force winds, snow, and ice! XL gave me plenty of room for layering. The fur trim is a very cheap black shiny plastic material. I removed the fur because of this and now the hood doesn’t stay on at all which is very frustrating in cold weather. In addition to that after light use of about 2 months the pockets are falling apart and need to be repaired, white filling is coming out at pocket seams on both sides. The quality is not what I would expect from Kuhl. The material of the coat also catches and holds on to any dust or particles really easily so it doesn’t feel great to wear this in an urban setting because it doesn’t feel clean. Overall im very disappointed and wish that I had returned this coat.
