I have been wearing Danner insulated pronghorns for 20+ years and have always had comfort fit even when brand new and first step in. These were my first uninsulated pair and they were very tight when first put on the point I almost returned them. I continued to walk around the house for a number of hours to loosen them up and I believe they will now be ok. Breaking in a tight pair of boots has never worked for me in the past where I ended up regretting trying to break in a pair so I am hopefully these will continue to loosen up and remain comfortable.
bought mine mid-season when my 10 year old kangaroos (different brand) were finally giving in to the wear and tear. These were comfortable from Day One. Wore them on a few short walks, then did a 3 hr pheasant hunt in snow, with only a little discomfort when done. Next time out, I wore them for another 3 hr trek and felt great. I usually get to the truck at the end of a hunt and wanna quickly switch to shoes, but with these I didn't feel such a need. Kinda glad they don't make those old kangaroo boots I always got so I was forced to try these. Hope they hold up over the long term.
Hands down the best boots I have ever owned. I bought these to replace my previous pair of pronghorns that I owned for 16 years. Multiple trips out west and they are one of the only boots I’ve owned that are truly waterproof and comfortable enough to go all day.
The best boot I have ever owned. Had to switch to a wide for a more comfortable fit, so would recommend going up a half size or ordering wide for a normal foot.
I bought the Danner Pronghorn 400 gram boots for a pheasant hunting trip in North Dakota. The temperatures were in the single digits and teens for two of the days I was there. These boots are awesome. They kept me warm and dry and I would highly recommend them. They are also very comfortable.
These boots ran a little small for me but I have a really wide foot. I went one whole size above my regular size and my feet just melted into them! Most comfortable boot I've had in YEARS, maybe ever, on sale, AND made in the USA! WIN,WIN,WIN!
am a big fan of this model Danner boot. It is light, well constructed, has good traction and support, and overall it is one of the best Danners I have ever purchased. i have been surprised to observe that the boot seems to have stretched a half size from the time that i tried it on. Have gone from thin wool sox to medium weight, to heavy wool sox in order to get a good fit.
These are great boots, true to size. Waterproof is excellent. I bought them for elk/deer hunting the black hills. I didn’t run into rain, but wet grass in the morning. Of course the goretex makes my feet hot and sweaty, but that is how it goes for me and waterproof boots. I did wear them a little a few nights before the trip, but they didn’t need a break in period really. Scheels had them on sale a few weeks after I bought them and the manager gave the difference back(I did buy them at Scheels.com). Great boot for early seasons.
I have purchased a good amount of Danner hiking boots previously and have had nothing but great reviews. First pair of Pronghorn hunting boots I have bought but so far I am really impressed. The general break in period is fairly short, I have hiked quite a few different Oregon and Washington trails and these have truly impressed me. The bottom grip of the boots is very quiet and well balanced as well stable and comfortable. These boots have amazing support! With a previous sporting injury my ankle requires a very stable support which these boots have. The full grain leather and upper part of these boots is completely breathable and wearable for hours of walking. Again I've had nothing but good experiences with Danner and look forward to using these boots for the many hunts ahead.
Needed a new pair of “cold weather” boots and bought the Pronghorn 400gram in 11-1-2D. I tried them on with heavy wool socks and sock liners and felt they were a little too snug. I called Danner and they provided a free return shipping label via email while I was on the phone with them. I reordered in 12D and feel the fit is nearly perfect. I normally wear a size 10-1/2D in dress shoes with thin socks, so allow for sock thickness when selecting size. My previous experience with Danner quality has been very good and I have no doubt these boots will do as well.
I actually use these boots for work, and I'm going on year 3 with them and they're the best. I swear by them. Long days working outdoors, in the summer & winter, these boots hold their own. Comfortable and strong.
I have worn pronghorns for work ( union carpenter) and for all my hunting. They were the best boot until the 5 th gen came out. These are narrower and stiffer then the previous model. The toe is smaller and definitely don't feel as good. Go back to the 4 th gen boot or this will be my last pair.
The boots are very comfortable and I have utilize them up at elevations between 6000 and 8000 feet during the day. Very good foot and ankle support. A great light boot for early season hunting and scouting. They are definitely everything I expect them to be; a very light, comfortable, supportive, early season dry boot.
I love these. More than once I've had to go through some serious thorns and bramble on a whitetail hunt in Texas and these were more than equal to the task. They are tough, comfortable and always keep you dry and sturdy. I'd love a side zipper, but they're still a 5-star boot for me and I'd buy them again without thinking twice.
I love the look and style. The outer leather is great quality and good finish. Size was a good fit, but this boot was not as soft or comfortable to my foot. Other Danner boots have felt more comfortable than this style.
How are the wides so narrow? I should have listened to the other reviews. The Wride are way too narrow on most their boots now.. Unfortunately gunna have to start buying from a new brand:/

Love them. Was looking for the same feeling that all leather combat boots gave after being worn in and molded to your foot/ankle. Very happy with my choice.
I bought these for tree climbing. Little tight to begin with width wise on the toe. Did s couple days river fishing to break em in. Very flexible for limb walking and gecko crawling. Sits good in spikes. I hope stitches holds up to abuse. They are usually first failure.
I loved the Pronghorn off the past. However, this boot tended to very narrow & tight. I am presently returning it. On a different note, I purchased the East Ridge & I am very happy with it. Thank you for the great sale on this boot as well.
there great I ware out a pair of pronghorns every summer there light wait and flexibility works great in my excavation work. im alays jumping out of the heavy equipment and into the ditch. when im not working im hunting or fishing. after a long day my feet are still comfortable keep up the good work danner, my wife has a pair to and she named our golden retriever danner
These boots are great. Break in was very short and they are extremely comfortable. First day out of the box wore them for 5 miles and had no issues or hot spots. I have only put about 30 miles in with these boots but no issues so far.
Excited when 4th gen came out because they were supposed to be more breathable than the previous generations and now saw they all ready moved to a 5th within just a few years. My older generations pronghorn gave up the ghost. Tried on the 5th gen and so disappointed. Looked at 4th gen and saw it was the same. They redesigned the back where the Achilles is and there is a ridge of material that is quite noticeable to the touch and runs around above the heel and just walking around the store for about 10 minutes with both 5th and 4th gen both hit me just to the side of my Achilles and started to rub me. Which means no new pronghorn for me. Other styles don’t have it. Will be looking for new style or brand.
The really liked the Pronghorns which appear to be excellent quality. I ordered 13EE and 14EE and was disappointed I could wear neither. The 13 was OK in length but too narrow in EE width. The 14 too large. Sorry that I had to return both pair.
The last version was my favorite... These are great boots to but they did change the tongue of the boot and are not of the same quality of the last generation of pronghorn.
Spent quite a few days chasing turkeys with these. After I put some miles on them they are super comfy. They are real stable on steep terrain. Im not sure if its these boots or if Im turning into a ninja, but the are extremely quite in the woods. Well done.
Great boots overall! They definitely need to be broken in like any quality boot but after that they are amazing. Super comfortable, great grip, and great support. I have already put several 20mile days in these boots with no blisters to show for it.
My last pair of Pronghorns (purchased about 2007) were broke in after only once or twice wearing them, really no breakin period, and they lasted over 10 years, until the soles wore out.
The new ones feel much stiffer throughout, and they do not feel broke in yet after 5-6 full days afield. I can't speak to longevity yet, but I've got a feeling these imported boots will not have the life the domestic ones did. I have a couple other pairs of imported Danners purchased in the last couple years and am not impressed with the direction the quality of Danner has gone. If I didn't have a 40% off coupon code due to a Danner warranty issue on a different pair, I would have likely looked much harder at other brands. Time will tell what I do going forward.
