I bought a Southbend combo later on for my four year old that was junk. will be replacing with another roam. The to be purchased Roam will replace this beauty in its 3rd generation. I am well acquainted with Spinning, and Spincast Reels and how to use them. Some people do not understand the difference, and will use a Spinning Reel upside down. I grew using Zebco 202's and 404's. Zebco, is known for being best for Spincast Reels. Based on the reviews, I will be taking about 15 feet of the line out of the reel before using it. The Spincast Reel is based on the Zebco 33, which is better than the 202 or 404 that I used to use. Oh, sometimes a 202 gets tangled, yet with patience one can fix it. I already know I can cast this thing a LONG ways out there. The Retailer had it on clearance, so the Combo is not much more money than buying the 6' Z-Cast Rod separately. I will have not problems catching a Bluegill, Red Ear Panfish, a Sunbreast Panfish, Crappie, Smallmouth Bass, or even a Largemouth Bass up to around 4 lbs. with this rig. never had any problems in the past using just a Zebco 202. I took it apart, the inside of the reel looks like good quality to me. Both combos are already broken in the same way: the reels do not and will not lock (unless you turn them upside down! How very frustrating this is.\r\n\r\nThe pink combo was used less than 5 times before this happened and the orange combo less than 10. Neither of them had more than just a few hours of fishing time on them. What a shame.\r\n\r\nI ended up just throwing one of the reels in the garbage and keeping the pink pole as a spare while transplanting the pink combo reel on to the orange (because I thought it was working properly). The next trip out with that pink reel, it began to no longer lock just like the orange reel (unless turned upside down).\r\n\r\nNo amount of cleaning or oiling resolves this issue. After some practive casting, the line tangled indie the reel. We were able to take it apart and untangle it but now the line won't catch on the reel. And there is little support online for this type of reel. I just took a vacation and was fishing daily for about 5 days. During the five days the only issue I had is that the reel at one point did not want to maintain drag and I could pull the line out by hand. I took the cover off played around with it and reassembled and somehow it fixed itself. Pulled in a few nice northern pike and bass.
