This reel makes a slight ticking noise and screams like a banshee...the other does neither. I contacted Abu about this and they said to do a warranty return for a damaged reel. It isn't damaged, it is straight up defective. So today i took the reel a part and discovered the anti-reverse pawl or dog was placed on the wrong stand off and was riding under the cogs it is supposed to engage. So i took it out and put it on the correct stand off and it works as intended. I would have to ask how that got like that from a brand new reel direct from the manufacturer? In any case, not happy with Abu Garcia at this point. I have purchased quite a bit direct from Purefishing including reels and rods, and this C3-7000C and another Abu spin reel. With a little practice it is fairly easy to toss a 2 oz weighted rig 100 yards with this reel paired with an 11 foot surf rod, without any modifications out of the box. I would suggest this reel to anyone that is getting into surf casting that is intimidated by non-levelwind conventional reels. Once you get over the fear of not having levelwind, there are lots of available parts to customize these reels and get added distance if you really need it. It worked well for a few months, but the drag gave out and the thing is completely useless after a year. I cant even reel up a 3 oz sinker at this point. There are lots of reviews and videos online of how to improve the drag, but lets face it- for 100$ I shouldn't be having to replace drag washers after less than a year. I won't buy another garcia reel.
