Product Description

Marlin 5 is a trail-worthy daily rider that's perfectly suited for everyday adventures, on and off the trail. A front suspension fork with 100mm of travel, 21 speeds, and mounts for a rack and kickstand make it an ideal choice for new trail riders or anyone looking for a comfortable, stable commuter with the ruggedness of a real mountain bike.

The charts below show our recommended sizes based on height, but there are some other factors, like arm and leg length, that determine a great fit. That’s why you’ll see some overlap in our recommendations. Not every rider who’s 5´8˝, for example, will fit on the same size bike. The best way to find your perfect fit is to consult the experts at your local SCHEELS.

It's right for you if...
You're new to the trail and you’re looking for a real mountain bike that doubles as a commuter - and you want it all at an exceptional value.

The tech you get
A lightweight Alpha Silver Aluminum frame with internal routing to protect your cables and add to the bike's sleek look, 21 speeds, a wide range of gearing so you always have the right gear for your terrain, hydraulic disc brakes that feel smoother than mechanical disc brakes, and a suspension fork with 100mm of travel—that's the same amount favored by most cross country racers.

The final word
It’s built in Trek's MTB heritage, making it more than capable of taking on trail adventures. But it's also versatile, and Marlin 5 is a popular ride on college campuses because the rack and kickstand mounts make it easy to accessorize and haul a load.

Best beginner bike. Components are cheap but that's what you get on the price. The bike is not design on the rough trails and drops but I abused my Marlin 5. I love drops and technical terrain. I never dropped my chain. I converted my bike into 1 x 7. 30T chainring and 7 speed Sunrace 14-34T freewheel cassette. Climbs well. It was a stupid idea but perfect training on my legs and I can catch up with all my friends with $2000 and up price tag on their bike and they're surprised. Overall, this bike is perfect to develop your skills and level up.

I wouldn't buy this product again
It is an okay beginner mountain bike, the shock and shifting aren't the greatest. If you progress fast being a mountain biker you should start looking for a different bike, although it can take a beating most of the parts a cheap and heavy.

It's actually raceable!
I have a 2018 Marlin 5 and love it. It was purchased for me after years of hating Walmart quality bikes. The frame has shown its worth over time. I've raced it through a whole season of NICA. I've only ever had one issue with this bike, the front wheel comes loose after smashing through rock gardens. It's only ever happened in a race, which the bike technically wasn't designed for. Overall amazing value.
