I love that I can be in truly gnarly, crappy, windy, cold weather and be genuinely snug and warm and dry. Everything from the overall design, materials and workmanship is top-notch. It's the kind of parka that after you've owned it for a while, you want to buy it for your friends and loved ones...it's that good. I'm 5'10\", 190# and got a medium - seems to be the right size for me. If I wanted to put a ton of layers on underneath, then maybe a large would be better, but then also the sleeves would be too long. Durability- Processing wood in this jacket didn't leave a mark.\n2.) Pockets- One of the best features are all of the pockets on this jacket. Especially the hand warmers.\n3.) Warmth: I had no problem staying warm in this jacket.\n\nCons:\n1.) Size: Definately runs small. The arms are too short.\n2.) Warmth: strangely, the arms don't seem to have the same insulation ability as the rest of the coat. The pockets are good, the rest is a fail. It is- hands down- the coldest 'warm' jacket I've ever had. 47 chest, 39 waist, 6', so I needed a XXL; lots of room leftover in the midsection. There is no waist drawcord, only the hem which is around the thighs. Every step opens the hem, cold air moves up through the jacket, and out the neck AND SLEEVES. With a strong wind, it's much worse. The sleeve gather is of little value. A reasonable length scarf is needed to help seal the neck. The hood drawcords don't help much- tightening them just compresses the insulation and the rear neck and head area gets very cold, even with a hat. I need to wear a puff type hooded jacket underneath to remotely stay warm ( about 20~25˚). It seems to be more of a fashion garment, meant for subway and coffee shop touring. In the woods it's worthless (other than the pockets). If it’s 25°F or below, you’re good to go, anything above that and it’s too warm. I spent alot of time researching coat and trying them on, as I figure this winter coat will literally last me the rest of my life. I settled on the Stormcraft (bought on sale in July!). While it is only August, I have been using it, as I work in a commercial kitchen and there are days where I need to spend 20-30 minutes at a clip in our large walk-in freezer, where the temp is -5, not including the wind chill from the fans blowing. I wear the jacket with just a polo underneath and it keeps my arms/torso/hips super warm. Easy to maneuver in. It is not too breathable, but that is not why I bought it. My winter coats are for 20F and colder. Anything above is for a fall jacket/sweater. At first it appears to be a bit large; the jacket is a bit puffy, but the seams are all in the right place and it looks great\r\nMaterial - Excellent feel, sturdy, durable\r\nWater resistance - I bought this coat because it's the middle of hurricane season and I may end up having to be out in the rain. I tested it after Beryl and I stayed very dry. It works.\r\nHeat retention- just putting this on will tell you all that you need to know. It's going to keep you warm. That said, I was wearing this in storms in July in Texas, and it still breathed enough that I wasn't dying of heat stroke.\r\nFunction - there's a lot of ways to make the coat fit you even better after some modifications. It’s it so amazing and fabulous. It is a little large looking but I like that aesthetic (it fits perfectly). I have worn it all winter in Iowa and hiking in Colorado in the snow and even as a casual blanket in a hotel and in my car (road-trip). It is freaking waterproof and down and amazing and I’m intense in how I spend my money and I don’t regret buying this jacket at all. I have washed it once without detergent and it feels like it is going to last a long time. I spent most of five days outside in blowing snow in the low 20s (Fahrenheit). This jacket is incredibly comfortable. I was warm and dry the entire time with just a midweight wool layer underneath. The hand pockets are lined with soft fleece material and are perfectly placed (not too high, not too low) for all-day ungloved comfort. The utility of the rest of the pockets on the jacket is awesome. Lots of secure, dry storage space. If I had one complaint it's that the zipper is sometimes challenging to engage at the beginning...like it's a little undersized for winter conditions. But once you've got it on it's like being indoors when you're outdoors. I haven't worn smaller than an XL in 12 years but this jacket in XL was comically large. In fact, the L is almost too big as well, but I'm keeping it in case I need to layer on bulky clothes underneath.
