It has been very reliable, and our 1-year old very hyper and energetic Cocker Spaniel has taken well to it. We were concerned whether he would for how hyper he is, but he learned quickly. We were even able to use only a mid-range setting on the collar instead of the highest (stubborn) setting. The service from SportDog has been exceptional! Very helpful people when I had questions before buying this product. I opted to use a heavier 14-guage wire with a 60 mil coating instead of the 20 gauge wire included with the system. The collar seems very durable, and the SportDog system has a two-year warranty instead of the industry standard of 1-year. If the collar does go bad, you can replace just the collar instead of having to buy a whole new receiver with the collar like a lot of other systems. Best decision ever. We purchased this in April 2023 and have only charged the collars once, the battery life is incredible! We just recently had an issue with our adaptor and box, we are assuming we had a power surge which made the system not work. I was afraid it wouldn’t be covered as we were dumb and didn’t use a surge protector. But everything was covered under warrantee and we couldn’t be more thankful for the incredible customer service! I also purchased a surge protector through SportDog so we don’t have to worry about this in the future! Definitely worth the extra $30 to do this! Also, shoutout to my customer service rep who made me feel supported and did not make me feel like I was dumb for not using a surge protector. She assisted me, asked about my dogs, made me feel like she really values her customers! SportDog is not only a great company with top of the line products, but they VALUE THEIR CUSTOMERS! That’s hard to come by! I will never be going with another company again! Have had to replace a couple of the collars over the years cause we have very active dogs and they play rough with each other and 2 stay out at night and like to chew as puppies and they were able to chew through the hard plastic. We have changed/expanded a few times and have had up to 6 dogs on ours and all worked great for in the large area we had fenced at the time (about 6-7 acres). The new collars work just fine with my older 100 acre system. I did have a problem with the first one I had but customer service helped got my issue resolved and have had it going strong ever since. The worst thing about this is if you have rocky soil and have anything heavy driving/going over (horses/cattle) the wire or have anything rodents that dig just under the surface like moles or gophers they can chew through the wire could cause damage the wire and ground it out which will cause the fence to not work properly/ground it out just like an electric fence for those of you that are familiar.
