Ive been after a marlin trapper in 45/70 for awhile and really weighed my options with this one. \n I'm of the mindset that a lever gun should have wood furniture and while they are becoming more popular tactical lever actions really weren't my thing. Comes completely ready to go out of the box, need be, while giving some room for improvement and specialization should one find fit. Rifle has a great fit and finish, Ruger has done a good job improving quality control for sure. It comes with the Magpul furniture accessories for the stock to change the insert and raise the cheekrest. The skinner sights come roughly zeroed and include the allen keys to adjust the sights, although the lack of adjustment graduations can be a little annoying. The included rear sight insert is a good general purpose compromise for within 100 yards and the integrated rail is well made and doesn't need to be upgraded. The included hammer spur extension is a good addition and seems well made, but only time will tell if it'll hold up to heavy wear. The trigger is reasonably heavy, not a bad choice for a brush gun, and seems to have a solid wall with no noticeable creep and a carrot-like break. The action is fairly smooth coming out of the box and the nitrided bolt is a very good addition. The stock features an ammunition quiver for storage of six additional rounds, three length of pull spacers change the LOP in 1/2" increments, cheek riser and two spacers increase comb height for better sight alignment with optics. Cheek riser adds 1/2" in height and each spacer adds 1/4".
