Out of the box these shoes were a softer fit - snug feeling on my foot - version of 6 of my other Oboz Hiking Boots. I have enjoyed over the years Sawtooth Mid and others from Oboz. I have even purchased their inserts with the main goal of maintaining my boots years after year. This is my first lighter trail boot and it was a softer interior fit version of the Sawtooth Mid. More flexible and I didn’t need to walk around in the house to break it in. Cons: The shoes make a snapping noise walking from the toe box area. They felt stiff but otherwise fine in the store. \n\nTops of my toes were torn up after km 3 of a short 5 km walk. Maybe they needed to be broken in? \n\nTook them on a trip and after a day of light walking, my toes weren't ripped up, but both feet were severely aching. Very glad I brought a pair of casual tennis shoes with which to alternate. My husband has the men’s version of the Katabatic, however did not bring an alternate pair of shoes. He is not a happy camper after a full week of wearing these. This was an almost $400 lesson for us to learn and will avoid Oboz going forward.\n\nNotes: Have never had an issue with any other brands of hiking boots, waterproof trail shoes, or walking shoes. Have feet on the narrow size.
