I have had 0 issue's with the frame part of the pack and had no issue hauling meat out of the bush with it. The flaps actually hold a decent amount of gear in them. One buddy bought a frame pack with a meat hauling shelf and began quartering and packing out his deer and bragged about how much easier this method was. For the first year I used only the Commander Lite frame and was very pleased with how it worked. I was lucky enough to harvest a few deer and can surely say how much easier it was to have packed them out. The pack easily held the quartered meat and the available weight bearing adjustments made that task comfortable. I added the pack the following year and love it. It is a very streamlined pack and is plenty large enough to hold all the gear I need. It's so light that I even use it during the warm early season and attach my platform, climbing stick and tree saddle. I found a way to use a couple of gear ties to hold my bow to the MOLLE loops for hands free walking. The drop down rifle pocket works great too. It can be a little cumbersome to remove the pack from the frame and reattach with the included extension straps in order to pack out meat but this is by no means a deal breaker. The unique lashing system secures meat for long hauls, and includes three extension lashing straps for extra capacity.
