Clam’s ice auger conversion kit allows an angler to use an 18 volt cordless drill as the “power” to drill your holes. Extremely lightweight & portable it has changed ice fishing forever. Patents pending. Clam has improved the design and added the ability to use your drill without taking the chuck off. Same great results as the original design but more user friendly. Results will vary depending on drill used.
Recommend using high torque 18 volt lithium battery powered drills. Ball bearing absorbs the load from the auger so the drill is only used to spin the auger and not to support the auger torque, greatly extending the life of your drill. Attach your auger bit just like you normally would on a power auger. No hassle, no worry setup, no loose bit falling out of the drill. Just pull the trigger, drill and start fishing!
Anodized aluminum frame/handle/plate
Rubber dipped handles and trigger for easier handling and use
Longer upright bracket to accommodate more drill types
Include all hardware to mount your drill
Lightweight and portable
Tested drilling through over 700 inches of ice (tested with Panasonic 18 volt EY7450 drill)
Works with most current 18 volt 1/2 inch drive cordless drills
No joke- this thing is nice and keeps my wife from getting mad at me about gas odors.
I like this. I just got this out on the ice a week or so ago. At first I doubted the capability but I drilled about 20 holes with this in no time. It’s much easier to carry around on the ice while looking for fish. I paired this with my 20v dewalt brushless compact driver. I used my 5AH battery and this didn’t lose any “battery life boxes” on the battery indicator. This operates a 7” lazer auger. It gets a little stuck at the end of the hole sometimes requiring a little reverse or a good downward whack. I watched another fella using a direct drill to auger attachment and he seemed to have trouble keeping it aligned well. I sort of giggled when I used mine- everybody shut up when I drilled holes.
All in all I expect to use this rather than my gas auger - no smell, no starting headaches, no spills, lighter weight, and dependable. Also, Scheels had the best price, fast service, and did a nice job shipping this thing out. If it’s really cold one should plan to keep your batteries warm, have backups, and keep your hand crank available if your batteries are crummy and don’t last. No problems here.
I use to have the auger connected straight to the drill. It worked but it jerk my hand and wrist when it got caught up. The plate stop that from happening . It works great I have more control and comfort drilling now. Last year drill a hole the length of my laser auger easily. The better the drill the better it works. Very happy with my purchase.
Best auger I've ever used, I have it hooked up with a 6 inch Lazer and a 18v Makita hammer drill with 4ah battery and I must say it's a unstoppable machine. If your thinking bout buying one don't hesitate you won't regret it.
