Always consider the legal aftermath - running is better, if you accept that as a strategic decision, not cowardice. If you stab (defensively!) to the gut, the shorter blade length is preferred - you want lots of blood, shock, and pain, not mortality. Then run! And report it before your attacker does, and tries to flip the narrative on you! Anywhere behind the rib cage is a no no, too much risk of hitting the heart, lungs, other critical spots. So, safe carry issues. Use the clip, blade resting against pocket seam. Loose carry is risky, since the large flipper tab could be knocked. I would like a pocket clip option for the other side of the handle, for right rear pocket carry instead of right front carry. At $35 Street price though, who can complain. The steel is literally a surgical stainless variant with excellent sharpness, but I don't use it for package opening, it would loose its optimal self defense edge. Although this is a fighter design, it's also fine for medium game dressing, although the deliberately thin handle isn't designed for a lot of carving. I learned two things: Cold Steel knives have “tough” blades, hold their edges for a long time, and are difficult to sharpen using a whetstone. I was successful in the sharpening, and now I’m curious how long this Crawford 1 will hold an edge!\r\nI bought this one three weeks ago, and am completely satisfied with it. I did have one slight “difficulty” in that the locking slide was sticking, but I took the knife apart and filed the edge of the spring steel locking mechanism. Now it works like a charm! The result was our new Crawford Model 1. Strongly resembling Wess custom knife, the blade features a wide saber grind and a strong, sharp point with plenty of belly for cutting and slashing. Its made from Japanese 4034 Stainless and is hollow ground to a thin, razor edge that will cut at the slightest touch. And, because Wess flipper is integrated into the tang, it can be opened lightning fast! The handle of the Crawford Model 1 mimics Wess originals profile and silhouette but is made from a strong (yet economical), glass reinforced nylon that includes traction rubber inlays, and a low-profile pocket clip.
