Our most durable hat has an extra-wide brim for sun protection, ventilating grommets, a cotton sweatband for breathable comfort and an adjustable leather chin strap. The hat is water repellent and wind and wear resistant.
Adjustable leather chin strap keeps hat in place
Ventilating grommets for breathability
Interior cotton sweatband for a comfortable fit
Made of abrasion-resistant, wind-resistant, water-repellent fabric
14-oz. oil finish Tin Cloth
Do not wash or dry clean – brush or wipe clean with a damp rag. Rewax as needed to maintain maximum water resistance. To prevent the transfer of oils, we recommend avoiding prolonged contact between Filson oil finish goods and light-colored fabrics, especially in warm weather.
I really love the hat but I ordered the 3 inch brim by mistake. So I returned it and ordered the packer hat 2 1/4 inch brim packer hat and I love it it’s perfect. I might buy me another in a different color. Thank u so much.
While the exterior of the hat is ok, the interior head band suffers from a series of ridges or bumps poking through from the inner (cardboard?) headbank, so the hat is not comfortable. It's winter here in Montana and I'm not wearing cotton hats these days, but I may return it. Hardly "the best" as Filson like to say.
The quality of the hat is superb, but gosh it runs so small. Received this as a gift in size large, but it sits atop my head. While I know my head is on the big side, needing an extra large is extreme- and my understanding is that if anything they shrink rather than stretch. Now I need to go through the hassle of an exchange.
Love the hat, great with the wider brim- works perfectly and looks good. I also chose it because of the chin strap- having chased after enough hats the wind took for a spin. Great color in Otter Green, works nicely with my wax coat. If I’d change anything, I would wish for a nicer quality leather hat band, which will age better, and would upgrade the look and quality of the hat.
It's a great hat. Don't get me wrong. The problem was the sizing. I have the insulated packer hat in large and it fits fine. Mind you, the insulated packer hat has the fold down ear flaps. The size of these hats are of the band. The flaps take up room when they are folded up into the hat. The large bush hat will be exchanged for a medium.
Fit was tight to the point of bruising my forehead. XL size fits differently than other Folsom hats I have bought in the past. In terms of shielding from sun and rain it performs as expected, and driving down the lake at 65mph the strap keeps everything in place. I would rate it a 5 star with better fit.
I do indeed appreciate the Tin Bush Hat! It has the utility of the chaparral hat worn in the savannas of Minas Gerais, Brazil, but with an unbeatable durability. This is my go to hat for rain, sun or snow, work or play. And It's great that they're available in green now, too!
I bought my Tin Cloth Bush Hat about a year ago and was right in between the L and XL size. Reading lots of reviews at the time, it seemed like some people bought large and bet on the hat shrinking, while others bought true to size and didn't report any negative side effects.
After a lot of agonizing, I bought the XL. Just put the hat through its paces on a 4 day canoe/camping trip in the Adirondacks, and I can confirm it DOES shrink after a thorough soaking. The XL is now definitively the right size for me; snug but not constricting. If you're between sizes too, go up.
This hat took everything the trip threw at it--rain, mud, lake water, wind, crushing, and looks even better than it did new. The brim is plenty wide and kept the sun off my face, I never felt too hot in it (weather was mid-70s with a fresh breeze). The strap was essential in headwinds, and all my other friends were jealous of my hat. If you're deciding between this and the packer hat, this one definitely has more "cowboy hat" dimensions.
