Love the cushy fit with real padding on the hip belt and shoulder harness. If you have to carry heavier loads, the Baltoros are the way to go. \n\nThe grippy silicone accents on the bottom of the lumbar area should be made standard on all Gregory packs, it helps keep the pack from sliding down really well. The Polygiene is also a game-changer for keeping that trail smell off when you get home. I like the clean design free of stitching/thread on the outside of the pack, and the Alaska Blue color is gorgeous, wish they'd offer that in all their packs. The fabric has held up well without being too heavy, though Gregory needs to stop with the hard parts of the frame at the bottom sides of the pack, covered in a heavier duty material. Though it is thicker there, mine is showing wear and will eventually fail. I see this on a lot of their models (I own 3).\n\nOther improvements should be to get rid of the fold out water bottle holder and put another stretch mesh pocket on the side (that is easy to access with pack on). Many of us don't use Nalgene for backpacking anymore, and dedicating a whole side to such a limited use pocket really kills the space. \nAlso on that note, Gregory's stretch mesh should be a better, tighter weave. The current stuff does not inspire confidence. \nAccess and organization on this pack are another huge plus, with plenty of space to separate things on, and still get to them. It's not the lightest pack out there, but given its capacity and how well it carries, it's actually not too bad. That pack weight was 5 lbs as well but otherwise has been a great pack. So much so a friend bought one to get into backpacking. One of the members i hike with has a Outdoor Vitals Shadowlight 60, one has an Osprey Atmos 65, and one has a Mystery Mountain, though I don't know the model. approx 60L. All of those were high on my list but I settled on the Baltoro because of the years of positive reviews. I have a long torso (22.5\") and so it's hard enough to get a pack to fit well, but this seemed to. The Atmos seemed to as well but Honestly I hated the bright blue color option I had.\n\nGenerally speaking I am alright with this pack, but I don't feel it has much my other pack didn't minus hip pockets. I’ve tried mid-range price point packs. I’ve tried alpine packs. Nothing compares to this one. 12 days back country and never sore. Intuitive design for easy reach everything. Unmatched comfort. Fits like a glove. I don’t feel like I’m carrying it; it fits like a part of my body. Very durable (had to descend around 1000ft of steep scree on my bottom and not a scratch on the bottom of my pack). \r\nIt’s a little heavier than the ultralights that are very popular now, but I’m happy to carry the extra weight if it means super padded straps and hip belt. It’s also small enough to fit in an overhead bin on planes. \r\nIn my opinion it’s the rolls Royce of backpacking packs. Quality matches the price. \r\nI’ve had two daypacks in the past 12 years- both Gregory, both used daily. Major upgrade in the best ways. It’s very rigid but nothing flat or uncomfortable is touching your body. It fits a mountain of gear inside but the bag itself feels like it weighs nothing, especially when the beefy waist belt is properly fitted. Every component of the bag seems adjustable in one way or another which is really nice but there are a lot of straps so it could be a little confusing at first. Overall it’s an amazing bag that’s super comfortable and feather light. It’s so so comfortable, with all the nifty features that make a big difference; the sunglasses loop&sinch, the easily reachable botttle pocket, the front and bottom access to the main compartment, ample space in the hip pockets. There’s nothing I don’t like about it. It’s the rolls Royce of packs. The added weight is worth the comfort. I took it on a 12-day hike with with a considerable load and was never sore. Not a sore shoulder or hip. It moves with my body perfectly. The new 2022 'version' of the backpack is a downgrade of what it was before. It's not just a lack of previously included raincover and a daypack/hydration pouch holder, it looks like overall quality and design decisions went downhill. Personally, the biggest issue for me is the size of the sleeping bag compartment access. It's too narrow to fit a 0ºC sleeping bag (~13'' vs ~14'' in the old model). No matter how I tried, the only way to fit a sleeping bag is from the top, which makes packing and unpacking a chore. Another downgrade, in my opinion, is a water bottle pocket. In the old model it was possible to tighten it up to secure a water bottle, the new one only has a lash without any adjustment. The bottom of a water bottle pocket in the old model was made out of a mesh material, which was preventing dirt and moisture accumulation while the new one is a solid fabric. Same changes were done to the meshed hipbelt pocket, now it's solid. There are changes to the top access as well. It's probably more of a personal preference, but I like two zippers on the sides more than the crescent one in the center. \r\nIn contrast to all negative aspects there are few positive improvements as well. The biggest improvement is a better adjustability for the back and hipbelt, also hipbelt pockets have grown in size and now can fit even the biggest smartphone.\r\n\r\nOverall it’s a bit of a disappointment for me. If an old model was a clear winner by almost all parameters, the new one feels like corners were cut.
