i was so excited at first to have a reusable bottle to keep my water cold for long periods but now I feel stupid for buying this product.. I should've read the reviews first. The lid design is horrible. The bottle leaks, and it's almost impossible to take that rubber gasket out to clean it thoroughly. oh well, lesson learned I guess
Within 6 months of using the brand new flask, The silicon ring inside the cap keep falling out particularly after fill the flask with hot water / coffee. Even though I have been catching it and carefully put it back, I eventually lost it. Because of the silicon ring is the key to keep the seal, my flask is now leaking if I lay down the flask. very annoying. To solve the problem, I have to buy a new cap...
i just bought this for my lemon hydro flask. the color looks so good with lemon because i bought the watermelon cap. it use to always leak in a bin at vollyball now there is never a drop of water at the bottom of the bin
I bought this bottle maybe a year ago. I must say that I really loved it and it keeps the water fresh and cool for a very long time even during hot weathers. I must say that I stopped using it cause of the lid. I notice few black particurls in the water and I guess it is from the rubber of the lid. I don't know what to do for it. Is it normal that it is happening?
I purchased a bottle and selected this type of cap, it is very difficult to clean, you almost need a special tool to remove the gasket to clean it. I emailed the company about this months ago and they never replied
I've seen others having the same problem. The unreachable o-ring seal in my lid keeps trapping small amounts of liquids which then molds, turns brown, and smells. None of which I can change. The container itself is amazing and I love it. The cap appears to have a design flaw however.
I have had my hydro flask for a long time and it has gone around the world with me! It kept my water cool in the intense heat in the desert in Israel's and everyone else was jealous : I dropped it recently and the lid cracked and wasn't keeping it sealed anymore so i contacted the company and sent them pictures and they answered promptly and sent me not one, but two new replacement lids! I'm so impressed and will continue using this company for ever !
Ive have my hydroflasks for about a year, probably more, but the lid has gotten moldy and no matter how much I clean it, it never goes away. The smell is not very pleasing and the thought of drinking from something with mold isn't much better. I absolutely love the bottle itself though, but the lid needs work.
Bought my first hydroflask to replace a thermos i lost. Even though I was diligent in handwashing it several times a week, it still had a moldy smell. I realized that water was getting trapped underneath the gasket thus growing mold. Disappointed that there are no maintenance instructions for cleaning the gasket as I thought the gasket was built into the lid and not removable. Also, since it is removable, hydroflask should offer instructions how to remove or sell removal accessory tools. I had to remove with thin knife and paperclip. Other features of the lid are good including handle. I originally bought wide cap for ease of cleaning...
I love the 32 oz hydroflask and take it everywhere. One problem; the lid. it's gasket came loose, or is naturally loose, and moisture got behind it. I started to notice an awful mildew smell, like days old wet laundry. it was making me crazy, and so i cleaned it repeatedly, even using vinegar. nothing worked. that's when i discovered it was the lid. there's gotta be a better way! i can't stop using this thing now, i'm hooked! would love to hear from hydroflask about this
I brought the hydro flask bottle after a friend have recommended it. I was thoroughly disappointed. I usually use it for hot water but the temperature retention is poor. It does not hold heat hat well, not as long as they claim. The worst part of this product is there is no seal and water leak out from the cap. You have to tightened the cap so hard to prevent the leaking but makes it tremendously difficult to open. Do not buy this flask. Not worth the money you pay.
Great bottle and the cap works well. I use it everyday as my regular drinking water bottle. I do add drink mixes, and they have caused mold to form in the lid. Once mold forms in the cap, it stains the seal, and can't be removed. The seal needs to be replaced in order to get rid of the stain. The cap comes clean with no issues. I bring my own water into work and refill this bottle one time each and every day, so it gets emptied at least 2 times every weekday. I have sanitized the seal several times, and just reused it. Today I again tried to clean it, and ended up damaging it in the process. I arrived on this site looking for a replacement gasket, and thought I would share my experience.
Love the wide mouth bottle and the cap is very functional. However, once the plastic ring comes off, it's near impossible to secure it back to the cap. Since the cap doesn't seal and the bottle starts to leak. I wish Hydro Flask would take the lid back for repair or offer some tool to put back the ring. It's not environmental friendly to have to buy a new cap every time the ring comes off.
I got a flask with this cap as a gift, but less than a year into using it, the rubber on this cap started peeling. Who knows how long I've been drinking rubber for? It has been an ongoing problem and most of the rubber has peeled off by now. I will be contacting hydroflask for a replacement soon.
My initial Hydro flask had the older cap and the second one this type cap. One day I dropped the orginal bottle and the old style cap split and was no longer of any use. This new type cap is in my view far better. One thought however. If you could offer a lanyard that could connect the cap and the bottle neck, it would be even better.
It's a nice looking but horribly dysfunctional lid. I've just bought a wide mouth double-walled Hydro Flask and while the flask seems very well-made, the lid is poorly designed. I don't get the 'Reddot design award': is that just an award for looks? Because otherwise, I don't think this jury hasn't used the lid for a little while... The gasket inside the lid comes easily loose, sometimes gets back into position after screwing the lid on, and then...comes loose again. Not to mention that this is potential food safety hazard: if you pour juice into the Hydro Flask and some juice gets beneath the lid...hello mould! Remember, I just got this for a couple of days and it's not like I've been treating it unkindly. I dearly wish Hydro Flask will come up with a new lid soon enough, one that's reliable. I can really see myself growing very fond of my Hydro Flask with a better lid!
The bottle is working great and i love now having to fill a water bottle 3 times a day but recently the cap has started to leak and its not great. If I have it in my bag on its side it leaks and it can get really annoying.
I have many hydro flask products: -true pints, 22-oz cups, the 21-oz bottles (with sports and standard lids), 40-oz wide mouths (original lid), and two 64-oz (the newest, and previous versions that use wide mouth lid)
They all work great! I used to think that the bottles were retaining the smell but it turns out that the LIDS are the problem.
all the lids I have for my hydro flasks retain smell and mold. I have bought many extra lids and they cannot be cleaned either. the plastic seal came off one of my lids and I threw it away to get another one. There aren't any helpful tips on cleaning instructions. I have tried everything to clean my sports cap, standard, and wide mouth lids but they all have a sticky mold-like substance on them that is IMPOSSIBLE (even with a mascara applicator brush) to clean!
I got a customized yellow widemouth lid and bottle(green 32oz) from my girlfriend and I thought it was great! Only problem is that after the rubber seal fell off my lid my hydro flask does not provide the same effectiveness. It does keep my drinks cold or hot any longer :( I don't want to buy another because I don't need it, but I do wish they would make them better.
I have had the rubber seal/gasket fall off super easily when I open my drink. I have to adjust it every time. It is supposed to be taken out so it can be cleaned behind it, but cannot be placed back properly - leading to many spills and leaks on my clothes and backpack. I have tried the flip lid too, but that seems to pop up too easily and spills all over as well. SO OVER THIS PRODUCT! Make a better option please - and replace my lids.
My 14 year old daughter uses this hydroflask almost everyday. Even though I wash/rinse it every morning and refill it because the hydroflask is almost always wet it gets mold growth inside the cap and it's impossible to clean inside the deep grooves. Since this is such an expensive product I would expect it to be made better so that you can completely clean it.
I have two 40 oz HydroFlask insulated water bottles and discovered this cap seal comes apart when hot water in the container. I was hoping to use these insulated water bottles for winter hiking in the White Mountains, NH. As a result of the leaking lid, hot water leaks out of the container, leaks hot water over my back and then freezes bottle to the backpack. I have tried several times to reset the seal in the lid but continues to come apart and leak. The lids are adequate with cold water.
My husband and I have 2-32oz, 2-21oz,and 1-24oz. I’m resisting the urge to get myself another 24oz one bec of the caps. My 32-oz with the 1st gen wide mouth cap could not be opened because the gasket kept getting caught. Hydroflask told me that this happens when the bottle is filled past a certain point. I was sent this as a replacement and I absolutely hate it! It has come off multiple times when I pick it up from the loop. It’s not fun mopping up the floors or drying off my car seat! It also leaks...I’ve found my gym bag and clothes soaked multiple times. I love the hydroflask bottles but I think they still need to work on the design of their caps.
I love this cap! It's quite an upgrade from the first generation. It feels more solid, higher quality, and more durable. And it looks really nice too. I haven't had any problems with it, like some of the negative reviews. I received this cap after my first gen cap broke and HF sent me this one as a warranty replacement. Thank you for standing behind your product!
Have older HFs for comparison. These newer lids with the smooth plastic and rubbery handle make it difficult to get a nice grip on opening and closing the lid. The slight texture on the older caps made it much easier to open/close. Hope you can address this as it poses a problem for baby-boomers/older users and disabled. Thanks
I bought an 18oz bottle with a flip lid for easy drinking but realised it doesn't keep the water warm for very long when I went trekking in the Himalayas a few years ago.
So i just started using it as a normal water bottle for warm water in the office. Then a few months ago, the gasket fell out and I didnt notice until a few days after. Now it doesn't keep my water warm and it leaks! Had to dry out the contents of my teaching bag the other day after a leak.
Man... You got to make sure the gasket stays in. Not gonna recommend this to anyone.
I'm so pleased with my hydroflask! It's perfect because I love COLD water throughout the day & I love that it doesn't sweat and leave a ring of water on my counter! It's perfect :) I'm about to purchase my second one!!!!
Love this style lid because it makes it so easy to carry on a hike or walking! Can also attach a carabiner onto it and attach it to a back pack of other pack! You do need to wash frequently as mold can gather in the corners of the lid. Good product overall.
