And so, here are those negatives... \n\nThe piano itself does not play any music. The sound of the music comes out of whatever device you are using with their Powered Up app. And no, you can't create your own music or choose your favorite songs to be played. The app has two modes, 'Listen' and 'Play.' And even after all of this time, the 'Listen' mode has 20 songs to choose from, and the 'Play' mode has 9 songs to choose from (at the time of this review). \n\nNow, for the 'Listen' mode, the piano keys automatically move as a song plays. However, if you are under the impression that the keys move while matching the right music notes, then you will be disappointed... No, it looks like the keys just keep moving in the same order, to give the impression that the piano is playing the music. \n\nAs for the 'Play' mode, you can't really play the actual notes in the songs like you might expect to. Because the way that it works is that you just press any key and it triggers the next sound in the selected song. And the reason that it works that way is because there's just one optical sensor that detects when any key is pressed. \n\nNow, putting all of that aside, this is still an extraordinary build and a lot of fun can be had just building it. And it might be a little challenging for some builders. Also, some builders should consider that it's possible they have made a slight mistake somewhere even if they are absolutely sure that they haven't. I know, because it has happened to me a few times over the years, lol. \n\nBut anyway, my conclusion is that LEGO could have saved themselves from a lot of negative feedback if they had just provided more information about the things that I just mentioned. I mean, that's what I mainly wanted to know about this set. And I'm willing to bet that's what a lot of other people mainly wanted to know about it. But don't worry LEGO, I still love you! As an accomplished pianist, this set immediately caught my eye, and I just had to get it. I had relatively high expectations, and I was absolutely blown away by the detail and thought that was put into this set. You look at a standard baby grand piano, and you look at this, and the similarities are stunning! The way the hammers and dampers activate with the keys mirror an actual piano, the LEGO branding on the key cover, the full functionality of the lid and music stand, everything about this was amazing. I’m blown away by the creativity of this set, not to mention the mechanics and Bluetooth integration that provides fun not just for the builder but for anyone who experiences it. Absolutely stunning piece. What would be even better, is if there was additional pieces that could play together! Build a few bags then have to stop because I’m missing a piece. Order the piece then build a few more bags and you guessed it missing another piece. This is literally ridiculous that Lego wants to charge all of this money for sets but can’t make sure we have EVERY piece. Now I get to wait another month for them to send the replacement piece. The piano keys are built like real piano keys with an attached hammer and damper. The right hand foot pedal also moves the dampers. The piano can be opened and closed just like a real grand. The music stand is adjustable. The sound board has holes in it like a real piano to let the sound resonate. There is red “felt” details like on a real piano. The piano bench moves up and down and it looks like a real tufted cushion. You can have the piano play itself (Listen mode) or you can push the keys and a pre-recorded song plays one note at a time while you push down a key (Play mode). Ideally you would be able to play any song you want, but that would require 25 (the number of keys instead of a regular piano’s 88) different electronic connections. That’s just not feasible.
