Just got this one today, need to test it in the desert at longer ranges, but I'm ranging trees at 1300 meters. Far beyond what my RX 1200I could do. The cool thing is no misreads or fail to get a return, this thing sees it all. I needed something that can hit a steel silhouette at a mile. I think this can do it. we'll see. But for everything inside what my LR rifle can do (1275m) I'm good.
I just purchased this Rx-2800 After the lights burned out of my older RX-1000. Although I have not used this much I have ranged several different targets out to over 1500 yds and it does give a quick reading. I believe Leupold should eliminate the ammunition library and groups to choose from in this model and give the ability to input maybe up to 5 custom ballistic curves in the next generation of the RX-2800. My thought is that if a shooter needs or wants to range targets more than 600-700 yds they are likely reloaders and if you are shooting over those distances choosing from factory load groups just isn't going to cut it. I also think the TRIG mode could be eliminated as it seems somewhat redundant of the TBR and only accurate to 400 yds. The windmode is nice for a quick read but the MIL/MOA setting needs to be independent of the main BAS/MIL/MOA setting so that it can read MIL when set on BAS. Overall I am still a big fan of Leupold and do find the value in this rangefinder.
I have used this extensively while shooting over 1000yds and for hunting in the mountains so far this fall. Super fast range, will hit non-reflective targets farther than claimed. Very fast readings past 2000yds on semi-reflective targets(dirt banks and grass mountainsides). Angle feature is accurate. It will beat my two shooting and hunting partner's Sig 2400's by far. Good optical clarity for a rangefinder, and the reticle is fine enough to get good fixes as extended ranges. Typical Leupold-gives more than advertised. Would be nice if the included case kept out dust & snow better, as it is open on the bottom/top. The case does nicely hold the unit without slop.
