This tool gives you a wealth of data on your AR’a movements, letting you refine your stance and technique without spending money on ammo or range fees. The Blackbeard replaces your BCG and mag with a laser device and battery pack using sensors that precisely track barrel movement. That lets you see exactly how your barrel is moving through target acquisition, trigger pull, and follow through. The motor inside the laser device then resets your trigger automatically allowing for rapid simulated fire. The Mantis app gives you drills, tracks your data, and gives you a level of insight into your technique that you can’t really get anywhere else.\n\nIf anything, the Mantis gives you too much data - it’s not always intuitive as to what it all means at first, and a lot of it could be organized better. The good news is that’s just an app-side issue. The Blackbeard hardware is great. The only issue I had was making sure the mag/battery pack was firmly seated in the mag well. It’s pretty durable, so a firm slap will get it seated and working reliably.\n\nThis also only works for dry fire, so if you want a tool that works with live fire then the regular MantisX might be a better choice. \n\nI’m really impressed with the BlackbeardX and if you want to get serious about the AR platform this lets you train at home safely and get deep-level insights into your technique. Yes, the BlackbeardX is not a cheap piece of gear.
