Research is right, this bat rocks.
So last year I bought my 10 year old son a Demarini NXS 31 -10 online from another company. Hes a big kid and had swung a Louisville Slugger 31 -13 the year before and had hit several home runs in coach pitch. We thought the Demarini would be a good transition bat. My son kept complaining about it stinging. I also noticed that he seemed to be hesitating when swinging and wasn't making contact like he had in years past. After reading several articles on swing speed, bat speed, barrel diameter and transitioning eventually to BBCOR bats and weights when they start playing in junior high and high school I finally decided on the Marucci Cat 7 30 -8. If they made a Cat 8 with a 2 5/8 barrel in USSA certification we would have gotten it, but it's only available in 2 3/4 -10 so we chose the Cat 7 instead. Wow all I can say is that his confidence is back, his swing speed has returned, and he's defending the plate again. He's one of the few kids on his 10U team that is looking to hit instead of hoping for a walk. I took him to the batting cage and I tried both his old and new bat with him. He was consistently missing or mishitting with the Demarini but line driving with the Marucci. I then took a turn. The Demarini hit well, but when I mishit it definitely stung my hands very uncomfortably all the way to my elbow, it is a hybrid bat with an aluminum alloy barrel and a composite handle. Even when hitting on the barrel a mishit stings, and if you get jammed and hit on the composite shaft you're going to definitely feel it. The Marucci Cat 7 with its internal dampener system really works. Even on a mishit low on the shaft I barely felt a sting and the sound of the good hits also helps with learning the bats sweet spot. Even with it being a short bat for me at 30 -8 it's one of the best bats I've ever used in a cage.
