As a long-distance trail walker (85 miles/week and over-pronator, I really like every aspect of the GEL-KAYANO 27 4E (size 13), especially the unparalleled enhanced stability and support, extra cushioning, extra-wide toe box, breathability, and supreme bounce. My only complaint, as echoed by other reviewers, is the very limited number of color selections for this size and width combination. I hope you can add some more vibrant colors like orange or yellow. Many thanks for this high quality product!!!
Every Asic since the 20 has declined in quality as it's features were moved to the 250.00 Metarun. The Kayano's now are one of the cheapest made shoes. It's not real AHAR anymore only in the Metarun, no true guidance and heavy duty foot strike plate anymore all moved to the the Metarun. Todays Kayano's are terrible quality 160.00 doesn't buy much with Asic. you have to hit that 250.00 price tier today. I never thought I would have a negative thing to say about Asics now all I have is negatives.
In my opinion, the new Kayanos are a downgrade in comfort. They are sorely lacking in cushioning at the front. I feel small pains appear in the front of my foot after 10km. The front of the shoe gives the feeling of running with sandals. I bought these Kayanos to replace my Kayano 21, which to me were the benchmark in terms of comfort and durability. Gel front and back and barely heavier. Today the Kayano has become a minimalistic shoe. The Kayano 21s from 5 years ago as well as each of my Trabucos are more comfortable than these ... Another point, they are much wider at the front so if you have thinner feet you risk floating down there. I am very disappointed and don't understand the positive comments of other customers. I was a Asics fan. Now I am thinking of looking elsewhere.
I am a mild over pronator and this shoes give me great support. Very comfortable, for me they ran a bit large, I went down to a 10.5 when I normally wear size 11. the inside of the front of the shoe needs to be reinforced, after two months of light walking and jogging they are starting to wear off and I can see a small hole in the the front upper mesh.
This is an amazing shoe, probably the best I ever used BUT also the worst build quality!
I bought Asics Gel-Kayanos from SportChek, and within a few months the upper fabric of toe box developed a hole in it. I got a shoe repair shop to fix it, and a few months later new hole tore open from a DIFFERENT part of toe upper mesh/fabric. I ended up throwing these shoes away.
Bought second pair of Asics Gel-Kayanos from SportChek earlier this summer and now the ENTIRE bottom cushioning and sole of toe area are completely destroyed. I will have to throw these ones out too! I can send pictures if needed.
I only do light workouts once a week, and golf once in a while.I expected better quality for this brand. At this price, the shoe should last more than a year!
When I first tried a Kayano, I was in love. Their 4E fit was perfect for my thick and flat feet. I had some of the best jogs in them and felt fine after long distances. This is the first time ever that a Kayano has given me the worst shin splints as they squeeze my feet. I use lock laces and have them on pretty loose but the shoe still squeezes me tight. They must have made them smaller this time. This really sucks because now I feel I can't trust the engineering anymore. I most likely won't go for the Kayano 28 and on and will probably just end up taking my business to Saucony or something.
I have been wearing kayanos for years and have enjoyed most all models. My personal favourite is 26. 27 is Very comfortable. I use tread lab insert for extra support and comfort. Only complaint I have is that it seems like they are getting narrower every year. I had 25 model with size 10 med, 26 model I got 2e, and on 27 model I had to get 4e. Not sure what 28 is gonna like. ASICS please keep in mind that not all your customers have narrow feet. Over all I like 27. Thank you ASICS for sending me free pair as replacement for warranty replacement.
Stopped counting how many versions of this shoe I've used. One of my favorite shoes on the market. They last seems to have narrowed over the years, but the fact that Asics builds these in extra wide widths is what brings me back. They seem to have solved the eyelet blow out issue from 26! That put me into Brooks until the 27 came out. One thing about the 27 is, the tongue is really narrow! Weird! When I tie my shoes I can see my socks sometimes. That's a first. Most Kayano devotes will be happy with shoe.
I have been wearing Kayanos for 20 years, and this is the first pair I need to return. The toe is much to narrow, causing a crease in the right shoe that rubs on your toe. Got them middle of June and been trying to return them since a week after I know these are Covid times but the current customer service is just awful. Really feel like I need to find a new brand after all these years....sad.
Why have shoes on your website that are out of stock. Remove them from your page. It’s like going into a car dealership showroom and saying “I’ll buy that car cash today “ “ I’m sorry sir but that car has been sold but the gentleman that bought it is picking it up in six months.
Bought these the day they came out as I've been wearing kayano for many years! So glad they finally offer full on support for us flat foot... It's too bad they aren't as grippy as the previous model but! Very comfortable. No actual complaints.
I bought these through the ASICS First Responder discount and want to thank them for offering the discount on these awesome shoes. They fit great, however, ASICS recommended size 12 for me but I went up to 12.5 and I'm glad I did. These fit very much like my Brooks GTS 20s, being a bit tighter in the mid area but with plenty of room in the toe box, and they have plenty of cushion. I keep calling these shoes instead of sneakers because even though I plan on wearing them for working out I could definitely wear these with a pair of khakis to go out and get away with it in the all black style. Love them. Highly recommend.
Start with pros Love the extra cushion under the toe Great bounce to the shoe It is lighter than the GK 26 The cons Very snug fit around arches Very similar design to GK 26 Because it is lighter seems like less supportive
Over all , light with good bounce but I don’t wonder about durability/ longevity’s. I’m 5 11 185lbs I wonder how long these shoes will last me . Also limited color ways .
heel is squeezed by the rim of the heel cup bellow the equator line and makes you want to put a heel in deeper but no. that is it. it is that shallow. I'm in orthopedic. all my patients were recommended asics. no more. i've return about 9 or 10 pairs because of the above
Decent style, decent fit, and not too different from past models. Seems to be visibly more cushion in the heel but don't feel it. Lot of room in the toe and I'm a 14 in all my shoes. Actually considering going down to 13 for the first time, since they don't have a half-size in between. Tired of white near the base of the shoe. Tired of having clean that area. When it comes to workout shoes, I prefer color so dirt isn't as visible. Otherwise, the modifications are slight. A bolder clasp-like heel, extra gel in the heel, nothing felt, more for show. Like to see the Kayano step up their style game. There are a couple attractive colorways, but I was highly anticipating these this year and I'm a bit underwhelmed.
The toe box was very snug with no room at all compared to the nimbus 22. Very tight around the mid foot and the back heal is not very comfortable/lifts out of shoe. The glue between the "gel" and the other parts of the show are sloppily glued and the gel has finger prints on them that are permanently imprinted into the gel somehow.
long time nike wearer... these were my first asics! Impressed with the gentle but firm glove like feet on my heel to mid sole. the toe area is roomy but not to roomy! I feel very stable walking/runnung in them! NOT going back! Man to think I have been missing out all this time! Wife knows best!
