Winter means dressing in layers, starting with the Carhartt Base Force Heavyweight Bottom. The poly/spandex fabric gives you plenty of freedom of movement while still trapping warmth, wicking sweat, and fighting odor. Features:
The shirt is nice but very light weight. I purchased this from another place but wanted to leave the review on here as this is where I come to get reviews on Carhartt products.
I can say it's comfortable to wear but after one wash the force sticker is coming off. It seems like Carhartt has lowered the quality of their products lately and the picture I attached goes to show that it's not the same.
This top is terrific! I bought for my son and he wears under clothes while hunting as well as wears it as just a top at times. The thumb holes are great and out of the way if you don't want to use them. I highly recommend this top. He wears all the time and I hardly have time to wash it before he wants it again so I will be ordering another.
I absolutely love this thermal shirt. I work outside in the great state of NY where it's a must to wear layers due to the weather. This shirt is one of the most comfortable shirts I have ever worn. It is super soft. It keeps you very warm, yet is breathable at the same time. It's moisture wicking and seems to have an odor control system in place. The quarter zipper and side front pocket feature give it that extra special touch. Honestly, I have been wearing it as a casual shirt as well as an undershirt. I highly recommend to anyone that wears undershirts. Carhartt has done it again!
Definitely would recommend this set if you are looking for something warm and durable to throw under your work or everyday clothes. It definitely kept me warm and dry during that stretch of cold weather we have recently. I could work in them all day without feeling wet and soggy. They don’t hold smell either so that was a plus if you don’t get a chance to wash them everyday. They have stretch where I needed it so they didn’t bind up underneath regular clothes. I’d say a plus all around. It would be nice to have a crew neck or v neck though as other options instead of the 1/4 zip.
Received this thermal shirt for Carhartt field testing. When layered, the shirt gets very warm; I wore under my J140 jacket in single digit temperatures with negative wind chills while working/moving and had no problem staying warm. When layered under a long sleeve shirt and jacket, I had to remove the shirt in 20-30 degree temperatures as it got too warm (not a bad thing!).
The shirt is meant to be layered, therefore, it should not be worn by itself unless in warmer temperatures. The shirt offers no wind resistance if worn by itself. This thermal shirt fits true to size and has not shrunk in the wash after several times. I have noticed some minor pilling on one of the sleeves of the shirt, but that could possibly be from my bag/gear rubbing on it while hunting. Great thermal if used as intended, the balance between weight and warmth provided is awesome considering the shirt is not made of any wool/cotton blend.
I received this shirt as part of a Carhartt Crew Field Test to test the warmth, comfort, and durability in real world working conditions. I wore it over the winter outdoors in Colorado and Wyoming in cold weather, heavy snow, and strong winds. This is by far the warmest base layer I have ever worn. It is very comfortable and moves with you. When I got too hot, I would unzip the zipper and cool off without having to remove the layer. I would definitely recommend this shirt if you work out in the cold.
I HAD THE CHANCE TO FIELD TEST THIS QUARTER-ZIP TOP, I REALLY LIKED THE WEIGHT OF THE TOP, PERFECT FOR SUPER COLD DAYS AND THOSE WARMER DAYS TOO, CAN UNZIP TO ADJUST TO YOUR COMFORT LEVEL . FABRIC IS SUPPER COMFORTABLE AND YOU HAVE GREAT MOBILITY. THIS TOP KEPT ME WARM AND STILL HAD THE BREATHABILITY WHERE I DIDN'T OVERHEAT.
Was I happy with the performance of this heavy base layer at 25 degrees? Yes! 15 degrees would require a coat! Arm length tends to be long. I haul gas and it gets cold breezy under the terminal racks and at our “drops.” I bought these and the medium weight models. While I live NC, that brings a frustrating climate challenge. Yesterday was the middle of December and 25 degrees at 7:00 and by 3pm it was 41. I use this along with a Carhartt Henley/Carhartt button-up FR shirt AND NO COAT. The thumb loops are AMAZING! Wish they were on the Henley. The heavy weight model was PERFECT for this day with these layers. Was I cold under the terminal rack at 7:00? Well, I wasn’t frozen, but I wasn’t warm either. It’s the right balance. It takes 15 minutes to load the tanker. I don’t like wearing a coat while loading, it just gets filthy. At 15:00, I needed to peel off that FR button-up shirt; then the sun went down at 4:45 and I had to put back on that FR shirt!
Purchased this to add to my base force layers. I wear this over a base force lightwieght and under a tech jacket or tech sweatshirt. Keeps me warmer than the old cotton layers at half the weight. Working outdoors building 9 hours a day, the base force layers help keep me warmer with less fatigue than before. Great job Carhartt. However having trouble finding sizes and colors and it seams like Carhartt may be discontinuing some of the base force shirts and clothes?
