Perfect lightweight jacket for those windy and light rain days.
Great light weight jacket. It will be perfect when working out in windy/rainy weather. The person I bought this for is 6' 4" and the sleeve length is perfect on him. The overall length of the jacket is nice. It's a very nice looking jacket overall and it bears the name "Carhart"
I was a bit nervous about the size but Carhartts size chart was perfect. It’s light weight, yet keeps me warm. I’m in SoCal so I haven’t had the chance to test it out in rain but I have no doubt it will be perfect!
My five year old Arc'Teryx outer shell is well worn and tattered - which never felt very durable. Plus, it was more windproof than waterproof, which was rather disappointing.
I wanted my next water and windproof shell to be better at keeping water out, longer to cover my bum and pockets, and also be more durable.
I visited our local Carhartt store, and fantastically friendly store employee recommended two Storm Defender jackets. This is the one I chose.
The jacket runs a bit large, but in a good way. I'm 6' tall, and the XL Tall is perfect for layering in the winter.
The length of the XL Tall also keeps my pants pockets dry in the rain and snow, something my Arc-Teryx failed to do.
The Storm Defender hooded jacket keeps my core and arms warm down to -5F for a good 30-45 minutes on our daily walks, with nothing more than a long sleeve waffle shirt and a fairly light hoody layered underneath. It also keeps me warm and dry in a steady windy wintery rain when it's 35-40F.
If I had one suggestion to make this jacket even better (6 stars) - lengthen the zipped collar so it rides higher up, to cover more of then neck and mouth to keep the wind out and warmth in. When the jacket is zippered to the top, the collar sits a bit low, and my neck, cheeks and mouth get cold. That's the one detail I miss from my Arc'Teryx shell.
5’7” 190lbs got the large Regret getting the large. I got the XL in the bibs and should have done the same for jacket but I where a Large in all the other styles for Carhartt jackets and fits perfect. This one runs tight in shoulders for some reason. Everywhere else fits perfect. Has a dual zipper which makes starting the zipper a pain. And when trying to zip jacket all the way up for face shield is almost impossible to get even after multiple try’s. Have had jacket for a few yrs now and not once no jk not once has it zipped up first, second, or third try with out catching on liner or jam or something is just a pain and not a function the jacket has for me at this point. Hood is ok but could be better. Over all still a quality build that still looks new and I wear it on the regular all yr. just needs improvement.
Do not buy ever. I bought it because it was carhartt and It said it would be waterproof but it’s not at all the first one leaked so I figured that it was a fluke but not the second one leaks even worse. Very disappointed there Quality has gone downhill.
This jacket will stand out with it's unique dual tone coloring. Great light rain jacket. Fits a little more snug in the shoulders and sides than the storm defender rain coat.
I was suspicious at first ,companies liable things water proof all the time and it doesn't meet them qualities. But the company has good quality and stands hold of the label..I will buy again.
I needed a fall weight jacket, waterproof, with a little room for layering. This is the jacket the sales person pointed me to. It feels good (not a plastic like rain slicker or flimsy windbreaker). The blue looks sharp and I'll be able to wear this on most any occasion, in the fall weather. At this point very happy with the purchase and would recommend. I cannot comment or rate the durability, however, with Carhartt's reputation .... I expect this to last (and will update accordingly)
Haven’t had a chance to test it out yet but I’m impressed by the quality of the materials and craftsmanship as always. I’m sure it will be a great work jacket for the rainy fall and winter days in Virginia. Seems a little heavy for summer.
Love this jacket! I always get compliments for this jacket and the material is much better than my standard jackets I use for work. I have only experienced light rain in this jacket and it did pretty well for a good 30-45 minutes I would say but other than that I have no complaints!
although i am not sure on durability, only time will tell there could be a chest pocket on both sides on the exterior as well as the interior and the chest pockets could be bigger both inside and on the exterior. one can never have enough pockets.
Works great so far. Time will tell. Based on my other Carhartt coats I expect this to be around for quite awhile.
Had this coat for two rainstorms and several windy days. Fit is as expected. The weight is just in the correct range I prefer. Great to wear as a windbreaker for long walks with my dog.
Great jacket. Leightweight yet durable, works great as a windbreaker and is definitely waterproof. Would buy another, i do wish it came in solid black.
I haven’t worn it in the rain yet, but it fits perfectly and looks great and is light weight. Just what I was looking for. Carhartt quality is top notch!
I am super stoked about my new jacket! Obsessed to say the least. I received my package pretty quick. I love everything about this jacket, I like my clothes a little baggy so this size small was perfect considering I am a pretty petite person. Absolutely love the two tone colors and I get compliments ALL THE TIME. Thank you Carhartt for always being there. I bought two cool long sleeved shirts as well!
