Boot fits just right. Love the zipper makes it easy to put on zip up and go. Requires very little break in. Seems like the protection is in all the right places. Seems like the only thing that can be improved on is the breathability on the boot.
I had the prior model of these boots and they lasted almost 5 years of daily use. These new boots are similar in style and did not really require any "break-in" period. They are comfortable and I would recommend them to anyone. They are certainly worth the money.
They're a dream. I absolutely love them and they're perfect for what I need. Both utilitarian and stylish. The quality is top notch and I could not ask for anything more. Worth every penny and then some. Also, shipping was quick. Overall experience is beyond my expectations.
I have diabetes and I work in a restaurant so I am on my feet all day. these boot are the most comfortable boot I have ever owned. the only way to improve this boot for my environment would be to have a sole designed for high non-slip for the restaurant. as in boiling water, hot oil, freezers
These are amazing boots, I've had then about two weeks now and after a little tightness around the toes during the break in, the fit is perfect. They're easy to clean, have great traction, and come on and off easily.
I have been wearing the striker II's for years and loved them. This new version is very disappointing. I don't understand why you had to make the toe bigger than it was. It looks like I am wearing a clown boot when I look down at my feet. The fit is fine but I have noticed that my feet hurt at the end of the day wearing them 12 hrs straight. I have given them 2 weeks and they still seem like they are not broken in. I probably will be looking for another boot to wear unfortunately. I wish you would just bring back the Striker II EMS with the updated sole.
I was happy to find a narrow boot with a composite toe. That was the only reason I bought these. Turns out, this is a really comfortable boot. The toe room is nice and they’re not to heavy. I wear them in and out of refrigerated and freezer spaces all night long with 2 to 3 pairs of socks. Yeah you’ll swear some, but your socks will wash. Wish this came a little more narrow, but I would but again.
Had them for about a month now. I’d say half way broken in. (Wear 30-40 hours a week). Great fit. Aren’t too hot inside, and not terrible outside in Maine winters. But worst part so far, they squeak soo lould when I walk. Guess I gotta break them in more.
These boots are phenomenal, wore them on every clinical shift and ride along. They kept my feet safe while working on the rig and kept them comfortable during long clinical hours in the ER. Best boots I've ever had. Don't mess with this winning pair of boots Danner, you've now got a lifelong customer!
First pair of Lookout EMS/CSA Side-Zip 8" after having worn (and been pleased with) a couple pairs of Striker II EMS 8". Been wearing the Lookouts for about 2 months. Feel great, but they are squeaky - seems to be coming from the insole at the heel. And standing them side by side to the Striker II, they are an inch or two shorter. Odd, in that they are supposed to both be 8" boots. Would have appreciated the extra height.
These boots along with the other pair are very comfortable. The soles are good on the feet, they are excellent at keeping water out and the zipper makes taking them on and off easy. BUT both boots have one issue, if tied like a normal boot (laced up tight but comfy) on the left boot the grommet by the ankle bone digs in. To stop this the left boot must be laced extremely loose. I work in corrections so a loose boot is not good. I was able to make it work after messing with it but this should NOT be an issue we have to mess with. I should be able to lace my boot like any other. I’ve purchased boots since I was a teen for work purposes and never had this issue until this boot. And as I said the other pair had the same issue (different make and size but ordered from you at the same time). It’s the left boot inner heel grommet on both pairs. They are great other then that which does make me wary to ever order from you again. They are very comfy except for that issue on the grommet which did leave a mark on my ankle bone for days after I loosened it.
This is my second pair, for my second year of EMS. These boots are a great fit, break in quickly, provide excellent protection from fluids and broken glass, have good traction in icy and wet conditions, and yet somehow manage to stay cool in the summer while I'm active. I love these things. But I have one gripe: I have to get down on my haunches a lot while working, balanced on the balls of my feet, and the soles of my first pair split right along the flex in this position. The tread wasn't even flat yet, and would have lasted another 12 months at least, so I was disappointed. But I still bought another pair, because I can rely on them for at least 1 year. One last note: get breathable knee-high socks and fold them down to the top of the boot to avoid any hot spots. My first week, I made the mistake of wearing regular ankle socks, and made some friction wounds on my shins; make sure the material at the zipper goes IN FRONT of the tongue!
I wore these boots daily for about 10 months in a construction environment, confined space, and at height. These boots proved themselves through 24 hour days, winter storms, and anything I put them through. I started to notice that the side zip began to unstitch and fail which wasn't an immediate issue but was only getting worse everyday I wore them, I filed for a warranty replacement which was super easy to do and I got a brand new pair about 2 1/2 weeks later. Overall here's what I have to say these boots will last and be there when you need them. I will continue my support for this brand again and again.
Going today to replace my after 2 years. In that time I have found that they have exceeded my expectations. The boots out of the box were true to size, and required no break in. After 2 years, the sole has very little wear, the zipper is just starting to weaken so it comes down a little, and the toe is a little worn. But after responding to a fire the other day, the water proofing is as good as the day I purchased them. I am going out today to buy the exact same boot. I love them. Highly recommended.
Zipper didn't help me personally too much as to expediting a quicker on off. Prefer the Tachyon model type laces as they are a bit longer and thinner, thus I anticipate an even snugger upper fit with the change in laces. The EMS model offers the additional overall support I personally need in standing in one location lengthy times. A good solid boot so far.
Coming from wearing Original S.W.A.T. Classics I was in love with these boots. They look to be constructed well with quality leather, the stitching was up to par and the outsole seemed to be quality as well. I liked the material of the inner liner as it really let your foot slip right in with ease. When I first put these on I was in awe, VERY comfy boot right out of the box. The toe was a little wider then it needed to be for my foot but the rest of the boot felt great, so I thought I would deal with it. Got them home and walked around in them for a bit and noticed my feet were getting quite hot and sweaty which I’ve never had problems with, but seen as how they were so comfy I thought I could also deal with that. Took them outside to do some work around the yard and after a while they started to feel funny. This is when I noticed the zippers were unzipping by themselves. Tried tying the boots looser and tighter and was having the same issue. Unfortunately, I decided that was something I couldn’t deal with. I reached out to a coworker who also has had these boots for quite some time and he reports the same problems. Luckily the dealer I bought them from let me return them and I reluctantly purchased another pair of Original S.W.A.T. 9” Classics. If Danner was to put a Velcro zipper stop On these boots and make them a little more breathable, I’d be tempted to buy another pair but until then it’s a deal breaker for me.
I have been in EMS for over 14 years and I am a Danner fan for life. I have tried a couple other brands over the years (I live in Texas and there are few retailers that sell a wide variety of Danners whereas I started out in Portland so I just went to their store) and never liked them. They often made my shins and feet hurt. I work in an extremely busy system and usually work 24 hour shifts (we have stations, not system status, but we are often out running for much of that 24 hours) and I prioritize my boots given this. This is my 4th pair of boots over my career, which I think speaks to the quality and how long they last. I am excited that they are waterproof given the heavy rain and flooding that occurs in my area and the arch support is great (I had to put inserts in my last pair, which were a different style). My only issue was at first the boots were SO stiff but after about 3 days, they loosened up and were just as comfortable as I expected. Thanks Danner!
I have never purchased a pair of boots that didn't require a " break in " period. These boots were very comfortable right out of the box. The only reason I gave them a 4 star rating is because I am noticing wear around the composite toe area. Will see how that pans out.
This is my 2nd pair of this boot. I used my first pair for almost 2 years while being a volunteer. Averaging about 1 call per day. The sole and most of the boot held up quite well. The zipper is pretty much the only problem. For some reason it likes to un zip on its own. Also when it broke getting a competent person to replace the zipper has proven to be quite hard. Hence why I have bought this pair. I absolutely love this boot and definitely the zipper closure but maybe a Velcro flap to hold it closed and somehow make it easier to replace since it wears out well before the rest of the boot.
