Have worn boots only once but are very please with comfort and fit. True to size and width. Bought these boots for turkey hunting this spring and will follow up after testing for waterproof and daylong comfort.
I have worn two pair of danner snakes. Very light very comfortable.. very good around the ankles. I m a turkey and woodcock hunter. They have been best for Turkey .. it’s generally too wet where the woodcock are and these boots leak eventually. If I want dry feet I wear rubber boots. Many times I wear them anyway. The comfort is usually worth slightly damp or soggy socks.
These are awesome boots. I bought them for an extended hike in the jungles of Panama. They will work well in that environment.
I wear 10.5" tennis shoes. I called Danner to inquire about sizes. I bought size 10.5 boot which was exactly the right size. I use insoles, hiking socks, sock liners and these boots are designed to allow all of that and still be extremely comfortable to walk in. The boots fit my feet.
The boots are waterproof so your feet will sweat. Make sure you plan on that with choice of socks and insoles.
The boots weigh about 5 lbs with insoles. The material for the uppers is thick and somewhat stiff but it will work to prevent snake bite from getting through. The sole is well treaded for rough walking. It is a bit stiff but should hold up for long wear.
Since these boots are tall lacing them up and getting them tight takes some time but the boots continue to be comfortable for long wear times. Once laced you foot will be comfortable and will not be moving around in the boot but there is adequate space around the toe area to wiggle your toes from time to time if needed.
Highly recommend if you are facing a serious snake bite environment.
I’ve had 2pr of Pronghorn Snake boots and loved them. I was about to order a new pair but read the reviews and they were terrible . I decided to try a pair of these . Compared to my old Pronghorn these were hard to put on because the laces had to be put through eyelets instead of hooks. Also the synthetic linings created too much heat . Finally , I’m just going to have to wait until you fix the quality of the Pronghorns or find another brand. I am returning them tomorrow ,I’ve only tried them out on carpet in my home. Jim Delligatti
I bought these because I am in and out of irrigation ditches all day in brushy country. I need boots which are water proof or at least can take constant soaking. Also, we have a lot of rattlesnakes this time of year. So, I got these boots. (I)The Good: They seem to be well made as one might expect from Danner. They are very light, almost like a knee moccasin. Comfortable, fit is right. I am a 11.5 EE. (II) The not so good: Well, this boot is clearly made for men with thin legs. My big calves are way too much for the boot. Laced up tight, there is a wide gap between the boot tongue and the eyelets leaving an area of my shin exposed to snake bite. I solved the problem by inserting pieces of steel into each boot to cover the gap. Kind of like how some carried knives in wartime. Danner could make these boots or at least one model of these snake boots with a larger shank circumference for us big leg guys. My calves measure 24 inches at the widest point. It seems many boots are made for less than 19 inches.
Bought for my son but he broke his leg before they arrived so he hasn’t been able to use and walk in yet. But they’re relatively light weighted and he was able to try one on and said it fit well. So hopefully once his leg heals they’ll live up to Danners reputation for comfort and quality
I’m overall really happy with the boots, after sending back the same boot in brown because they are not waterproof I’m liking these much better. Turkey boot manufacturers could use a little lesson from turkey hunters and make the most athletic hiking boot possible then add a snake guard and would have sells thru the roof, instead, they build a bulky boot that doesn’t flex and is hard to get to fit when your foot is not exactly the same as everyone else’s. With the lack of choices I’d say these are some of the best boots for the money.
I got these for turkey hunting as rattlesnakes are a concern. I would say they are the most comfortable boots I have had in some time. They are also tennis shoe light which makes it easy. I walked 17.9 miles in these in the last 4 days in western Kansas hunting Rio's and they worked great going up and down hills and bluffs along the Saline river.
They are extremely comfortable, especially when walking on relatively flat ground, but, where I hunt there is no such thing. Still, they are comfortable until you get into steep terrain, they begin to rub on the outside of my ankles. The look is great and they are pretty light. Haven’t tested how well they are waterproofed yet, but I believe they will hold up!
