Purchased a small to wear under their alcan vest I've gotten simultaneously, but in a Medium size. They fit and work together nicely. I wanted the raven/black color to match the alcan vest cinder color. I chose Scheels because they carreid this color, it was unavailable elsewhere. My second choice would have been this blue and darker blue color.
Some other kinds of vests have plastic zippers that the teeth fall out, rendering it somewhat useless and disfunctuonal, but Filson in my opinion has some top quality zippers that are mostly or altogether metal and teeth won't fall out or crack and break. Definitely expensive, almost too much or too nice for work wear that you'll abuse at some point, this ultralight vest I didn't want to destroy as an outer work material so decided it would be best to use as a layer.
The Small size on me has little to cover the shoulders, it is good to wear under the alcan vest which covers out over the shoulders better for work and household or yard tasks.
The ultralight vest has 2 nice outside hand pockets at each side and also 2 open inside glove pockets, one on each side, then a small wallet sized zippered pocket on the left side inside.
The moleskin suede-like cotton inside lined collar is a luxury feel material to me that I like a lot, there is some of that in the side hand pockets also.
Love this vest. 5’9” and 170lbs and I’m normally a medium in most things, but I like the way the Small fits. I’ve been wearing a base and mid layer (a wool sweater once) under it and it feels like there’s plenty of room for me. With the size small I’m thinking it won’t feel too big when I’m just wearing a t-shirt under the vest.
The material and fill seem great for low profile layering. However this is the first medium from filson I have purchased that feels a little short although still has ample room for layers. Ps: zipper seems cheap and keeps comming apart at the bottom
Extremely happy with my purchase. I wear medium in Patagonia and large in Arcteryx. The medium in this vest is perfect. This is not a slim cut or athletic cut or whatever you want to call it, thank goodness. I love it and have already gotten many compliments. Quality product with a great fit.
This vest is sporty, warm and well designed. In the southeast we do not get harsh winters so vest are our go to most of the winter months. I look forward to purchasing more colors. Great work Filson team.
Had the ultra lite jacket for a year. Love it. Knew the vest would be just as awesome and it is. 5’10” 165lbs and a medium is perfect for this type of garment. Goes over a shirt perfect but slim enough to add a jacket.
After receiving the vest I took in on a hunt that required an 8 mile hike inward to achieve favorable position the following morning. The landscape was unforgiving and the soil was stained red as seen on the garments I had worn previously while hunting the same location. I was worried about snagging as mesquite littered the western terrain. Nights were spent sleeping on the sandbars that rose above the river yet held moisture due to the immediate proximity of the rivers current. Although the the vest remained wet for the duration of the trip, it retained its warmth and gathered my permeating torso heat. Amazingly every mesquite thorn and cactus needle that came in contact with the vest rarely penetrated the flexible fabric and not once resulted in a tear. The fabric repelled the overpowering color of the red clay, keeping the vest stain free from collar to waistband. The jacket is light and presented zero limitations on my range of motion. After venturing on the 8 mile extraction hike, I washed the vest and wore it Monday morning with no lingering traces of my weekend escapade.
Vest fits perfectly. I am 6ft, 200lbs. The large is just the right fit. Vest is very warm. I easily fit an undershirt, long sleeve button up, and a sweater underneath with plenty of room left in the armpits.
